I have seen it in others. I have been it myself.
The person who is always the loudest in the room. The one who can't stop seeking approval. The one whose anger is just grief in different clothing. The one who keeps repeating the same patterns and calling it bad luck.
These are not bad people. These are wounded people.
And the wound doesn't look like what you think. It doesn't announce itself. It shows up as behavior — as the pushing away that is really the fear of being left, as the reaching for someone that is really the terror of being alone, as the performance that is really a person begging to be seen without having to ask.
The hard truth — the one that actually does something — is this:
The reason you recognize it is because you have carried it too.
Maybe you still do.
The wound does not make you a monster. But looking away from it might.
So look. With honesty. With patience. With the same grace you'd extend to anyone still learning how to tend what they carry.
That is the work. That is how the monster loses its power.
