Fat was never a vulgar word until my father used it to describe my mother and I watched as she wept. Natural was never offensive until he said I looked better with make up on, and that made me hate myself. As a child he never once offended me or called me names that brought me down but as I grew older and he grew meaner the words were flying at me like stones. With each hit I found it harder to look at myself in the mirror, harder to face my mother, harder to face the world. Someday, I hope to have a little girl who thinks the world of herself, and is never tortured by her reflection. Never stoned with words like fat or ugly or with sentences like you need to lose a couple pounds or you shouldn't eat so much of that. You sick son of a bitch! You killed everything good in me You took what wasn't yours You didn't care how much I screamed Or how much I hurt You just did what you wanted to do. Eventually I became numb to the pain To the beatings To the horrible feeling I got in my chest whenever I felt you near me. You sick son of a bitch! How could you. Every time I almost start to feel safe again You come back around And you rebuild my walls in the matter of seconds. I am insecure And incapable of holding on to anything other than the pain you thrusted into me. Dammit. Why do you still have the power To make me scream inside And clench my jaw And ball my hands into such tight fists that my nails draw blood from my palms. What the fuck! You son of a bitch! Why do you think it's okay To come around from time to time?! Do you like seeing me in pain Do you like knowing that I'm broken Or that you can break me because you know where my weak points are...? I don't understand. I wish I did. But I can't. I can't understand why you would purposely slaughter the beauty in me. I am left only with this numbing pain This bitter hatred of myself And this darkness. I am lonely, but never quite alone I won't let anyone touch me. I won't let anyone love me. I won't let anyone get too close. And I am imprisoned by my own fears That someday you'll find me again, Take me again. You sick son of a bitch. You have violated me And made me shake from the inside. You have destroyed whatever light I was entrusted with... I am deep I am dark I am broken I am unlovely I am incapable of forgetting what you've done What you've stolen What you caused me to become. Please. For the love of all things okay... Please.
