thinking about how “i like mitski” =\ “i am a mitski person” and how often we conflate our media consumption with a distinct identity (re: that last article). and to be fair, there may be something to be said for the understanding that appreciators/consumers of some aspect of media/culture may have shared characteristics, but that cannot be separated from the ways in which social media as well as corporations like netflix have encouraged us to package our (media) interests within the framework of identity, so that we can be identified as a marketable customer bracket.
