WRG!QuickPix: "Cannes" it be a disaster?
Aishwarya Rai Bachachan's Red Carpet Drama
One of the most powerful Bollywood icons and much loved actress across cultural barriers, Aishwarya Rai Bachachan has landed in Cannes, she’ll actually be making her appearance today and will be at AMFAR tomorrow. Tabloids have been trashing the star when she recently appeared in public, and, big shocker, she had not done the Hollywood “Birth and Shed” diet to look miraculously skinny four to five weeks after giving birth.
Amisdst the trash-talking and name dropping, poor Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Indian Traditional-Couture designer has been dragged into the ring alongside the tabloids and critics after rumours spread that he would be designing figure flattering pieces for her to wear on both days. He made a statement 2 days ago denying all truth to the rumours…shove it…in much more demure words. She has big shoes to fill, her own, after four outstanding years as part of the Cannes Elite from 2008 - 2011, her 2012 debut will turn heads, unfortunately, not for the best reasons.
Back to Rai, the mom gave birth in 2011, six months later, she is clearly enjoying the mommy-life a bit too much for the likes of the tabloids and hasn’t shed a single pound. What do we have to say about it? Firstly, do we remember when Catherine Zeta Jones had her second child? Yes, cast your memory back, got it? Good…she was in no hurry to get back into post-baby shape. She sang the “sit back and enjoy my baby song”. The same here, it would seem.
She’s doesn't seem neurotic about it like the post-baby, mad workout regime Beyonce has going on at the moment; and she’s hasn’t snapped back into shape like Heidi Klum or more depressing, Miranda Kerr (what are they, elastics?). Rai, is on a slow train moving along…we just wouldn’t count her out of the game just yet. Besides, we wouldn’t bet against someone who looks like this on some of her best days:
Besides, the baby phat is only as permanent as one wants it to be…well, we’re hoping she’ll want to get back onto the big screen soon…nothing like peer pressure and the threat of having to appear on Karan Johar’s couch or better yet, studio chat with Omar Qureshi to scare one into getting the fat jiggling and find the nearest gym.
When she does decide to get back on a treadmill and shed the pounds…we have a feeling she’ll be bowling everyone over again. It will be good to see the star out on the international stage once more. Bring it darling! Bring it on.

THIS WEEK on WickedRunwayGoal!
WickedRunway!Feature: The Cannes Film Festival is the European social event of the year, one can expect to see some of the best cinema that will no doubt direct the atmosphere of most awards ceremonies later in the year, right up to the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. David and Brandon Cronenberg have created a buzz as the first father-son duo to premier films, simultaneously, at Cannes. That’s all well and good and we say rock on, bring on the great flicks…but the pretty people in their pretty dresses at the Cannes 2012 premieres, film photocalls, and benefits such as AMFAR are probably what we ogle at the most. Hence the feature. Which designer had the most influence resulting in the most significant looks on the red carpet? Did Jada Pinkett Smith flourish in green or flop? How about Marian Cotillard…find out this week in the WRG!Feature.
WRG!Fitness: Get the scoop on Kangoo Jumps. Is it just a fitness craze? The lure of a pain-free set of knees after a workout might just cement this new movement into the kind of staple that kick-boxing has become…or it could just be a quick fad, out by 2013. What about the miracle, zero calorie noodle that women in far East Asia, mainly China and Japan, have used (for around 800 years) to feel fuller and stay slim. It's got to be love. Further more, we feature a post-workout meal and how to monitor those anabolic and catabolic reactions in your body.
WickedRunway!Focus: Rachel Bilson takes on “Blue Bell” in New York style. CWTV has moved to renew the cute “New Yorker in the South” series – and that’s a delightful addition to the more sombre, thought-provoking drama of Revenge and Ringer. Bilson’s wardrobe on the show has been enviable to say the least. We take a look at how to achieve that “icon out in a one-road town” look. We show you where to find them, those SATC reminiscent pieces, paired with Zoe’s own classic pieces and downright flashy pieces … she’s worn the lot and we look forward to more.
WRG!News: EURO 2012, who will make it to the silverware and by proxy a first class ticket to the Confed Cup in 2013. If the only thing you know about football is that it’s a bunch of guys, running after a ball and eventually someone wins…well…how about we take you through the “other” biggest competition in the world, after the world cup, league championships and UEFA Champions League of course. This week, hit picks and predictions involving Group A and Group B for the Euro 2012.
WRG!Trends: The Texture Report is something everyone will need eventually this year. Yep, the Southern Hemisphere is going through the motions of settling into winter. Give yourself a break from all the woollen layering and take a look at great ways to keep warm and look good this season. Northern Hemisphere …you’ll get the cold chills soon enough, this’ll help you out when they come barging into your sphere soon enough.
WRG!GoodReads: In the first edition of our variety edition, Steve J Davies, author of the Just Killing Time series, reviews some of his “Good Reads” for us, whilst out on holiday on the Welsh Coast. Davies helps us get reading again (for anyone who has forgotten what a book looks like, what with the omnipresence of the internet and e-books.) JD Gillam’s “Fifteen” is first up on the list. To commemorate our little journey into reading, a review on the Just Killing Time series awaits and we also show you how to create a calming space where you can read in peace, even if it's for just an hour out of your day.

Real Madrid finds success in Kuwait
It may not be oil, but two goals scored during the friendly were more than enough to keep the euphoria coursing through the recent league winners veins. Do we need to say once more that the “usual suspects” netted two? Well, there you have it, Cristiano (CR7) the man who has won more games than any other player in La Liga this season, scored at 31 minutes, that’s four minutes after Angel Di Maria scored the opener (and we were very happy to see the Argentine in the starting line up again).
Adan, Altintop, Varane, Sahin and Granero were given rare starting line ups as well (Granero could almost be touted as a regular in comparison to the rest of the substitutes though). Ronaldo, Özil, Di Maria, Benzema, Coentrão and Carvalho, filled out the rest of the line up.
There is a standing saying out in the football sphere, heck, any sport out there, that there’s no such thing as "friendly" in a friendly match. Well, in this case, there was.. The Kuwaitis welcomed the team with grace and poise; including meeting with the entire Royal family including His Highness, the Emir. One was forgiven for thinking that a royal delegation had arrived in the Gulf state.
With Fabio Cannavaro and Diego Maradona already paving the way to a global Middle Eastern contribution to the grand football stage by plying their trade their in the past two years; the excitement of having arguably the biggest team in the world strutting their stuff on their pitch was to be expected.
Everyone loves a winner.

WG!News: La Liga BBVA Record Breakers and big shockers
Real Madrid CF has done the improbable over this past season. They have surpassed the 99 point record which FC Barcelona set and held at the end of the 2010 by those vital 3 points, which they garnered after defeating Real Mallorca 4 goals to 1. The goal scorers were the usual suspects, Cristiano and Benzema scoring one each, with pleasant surprise, Özil, finding the net twice.
If you’re a betting man (or gal) you might be inclined to predict that the era of Los Blancos is back on track and, for all intents and purposes, their iconic rise out of the 4 year shadow, cast by Barcelona is sweeter for the entire Santiago Bernabeu crew, because of this new record – more so because it sends a bit of a low blow to the former champions.
If ex Real Madrid GM, Valdano is out there somewhere (which he always is) he most certainly has something to say about this (which he always does). Los Madridistas were on hand to celebrate for hours at the Santiago Bernabeu. For one of the most expensive teams, with one of the most expensive substitute benches in the world (who needs to count the many zeros in the account balances of the starting eleven…that’s a figure way out there - it’s almost unfathomable) a team that held so much promise and big name stars paired of with the number one coach … victory was even sweeter.
Shock Results still burn as Villarreal is Relegated
In a turn of events that sent shockwaves within the LLBBVA table, struggling Villarreal was relegated in a highly contested relegation battle. Life in the second division is going to be difficult, what with Villarreal having been the great inspiration behind many of the second divisions’ most outstanding teams who have barged into the primera division, guns blazing, including recent entries Granada and Real Betis.
Atletico Madrid, Europa League winners, who had brought nothing short of their "A" game for the second half of the season, outplayed the ailing Yellow Submarine. Considering that they could have been evenly matched, both teams playing within a 4-2-3-1 formation, morale did play a role in the defeat. Still, not accustomed to fighting off relegation in recent seasons past, the Yellow Submarine sank beneath the weight of expectation not evenly matched up against Europa champions, Atletico.
With the winning goal scored in the 88th minute, it only tightened the noose, but there was still hope, if only just a hint of it. The blow came in another relegation battle between Rayo Vallecano and Granada. Once Vallecano scored, Villarreal was shoved into relegation, by proxy.
For a team that has been easily identified by their loyal and close knit fans, the Madrigal was a vision of disbelief, with some fans breaking down and others speechless, gaping mouths and confusion across the board.
It's been a swell, a whirlwind adventure...big wins, shock defeats, Barcelona and their fall from grace, Guardiola leaving, Higuain drama, Valdano madness, Catfights with Mourinho (take your pick), Fabregas' return and Villarreal's crash and burn even a shock announcement that Unai Emery is the new head coach at FC Spartak Moscow (we hope he packs mittens for that move). Bring it. We can't wait for the 2012/2013 season. And we will accept no less than thrills, again.

WRG!QuickPix: There's a "G" in Style
Find your fix through Elie Saab’s 2012 S/S Collection
There’s something about any screen and couture era before the 80’s that is just so heart-warming and…darn it…enviable. Why is it that people on silver and big screens just exuded that whole “debutante-sexy-yet-unattainable” aura effortlessly? The look is hardly attainable without hard work and scandle lurking in and about somewhere. Have no fear, for there is a "G" in style. The name was Gardner, sleek Ava Gardner, and she was one of those screen sirens who could flit seamlessly between kitten and angel…and look unbearably gorgeous whilst doing anything.
Well; yes, the internet has made anyone open to extreme scrutiny…and paired with a more vivacious, in your face paparazzi and you have a dangerous Double Dutch team. People are becoming jaded with stars, but are still way too enthralled to drop the voyeuristic behaviour…so, how do we inject that ethereal, but sexy charm back into our lives, our closets, our office/campus chatter and just forget about current stars? We become our own Screen Goddesses.
Take a page out of Elie Saab’s book, channel Gardener charm and maybe, just maybe you could be one of those “debutante-unattainable” women who don't have to bat your eyelids at the new guy in the office, you just have to look good and the bees will come buzzing around you with unfeigned curiosity...
A variation of her style can be found through the impeccable finery of Elie Saab.
Backstage at Elie Saab should be illegal, who looks that good in a hurry? Don’t we love the models…okay, so we love the models…maybe more than the clothes. To shop for all things Gardner-inspired, with Elie Saab in mind, check out Polyvore, pieces are available from the current Spring/Summer collection along with pieces from the 2011 collections.
