10- lifting someone up out of excitement and scruff?
Sprinting through a rapidly-collapsing ruin was not how Dareth expected to spend his first proper date. But things haven’t been “expected” since his life got tangled with the ninja.
And, in turn, with Ronin.
He would wonder what exactly it was he saw in Ronin, but they were currently fleeing for their lives, so that’d have to wait.
“REMIND ME AGAIN WHY WE CAME DOWN HERE, RONIN???” Dareth called back to the man hanging onto his hand as they ran. Under Ronin’s free arm was some kind of treasure chest.
“For the treasure! What’d you think, D?!” He ducked as Dareth did, under a swinging blade of some kind. Oh great, booby traps.
“Yeah, I know I know! But why the crumblin’ one? Why couldn’t we just go to- I don’t know, a cave or something! Mine some gemstones to tickle your treasure fancy?!” He came to an abrupt stop at a section of strange rising-and-falling pillars, letting go of Ronin’s hand for a second to scan over the room.
“Where’s the fun in that?” Ronin took a moment to shove the small chest into a bag on Dareth’s back, and winced when the whole hallway shook again. “Damn it’s comin down faster than I thought.”
“That’s not reassuring, you!-“ Dareth growled for a second, before leaping out onto the pillars with a ninja’s speed, Ronin close behind. “Less talkin, more runnin!”
They sprinted for about another few feet before coming to another abrupt stop. A chasm. Dareth’s stomach dropped. The whole place shuddered again.
“... shit,” Ronin remarked, looking pale. “I-I forgot this was here.”
“You forgot???” Dareth yelped, looking around frantically for something to get across on.
“I haven’t been down here in a while, okay?! Aw hell, aw hell...” Ronin muttered, sounding clearly panicked, now. Dareth hadn’t quite noticed, though, instead spying a vine hooked around a boulder. Without really asking, he grabbed Ronin by the arm and yanked him along to the boulder, keeping a tight grip on his arm as he took the vine with his other.
“Is that gonna hold us?” Ronin asked, and his voice suddenly sounded quiet and nervous. Dareth glanced back at him, biting his lip.
“One way to find out, darling,” he remarked, before jumping out over the chasm.
There were a couple moments of airtime, then a lot of tumbling, and screaming. Dareth shut his eyes for a long moment, but when he opened them again, he and Ronin had rolled out onto the dirt in front of the ruins, collapsing behind them. For a second, both of them were silent and panting at the adrenaline of the moment.
“WE’RE ALIVE!” Ronin shouted, springing to his feet, and Dareth did too, mostly in disbelief.
“HA!” Dareth laughed loudly, before turning and grabbing Ronin around the waist suddenly, lifting him up with a wild grin. “You are the craziest guy I have damn ever met!”
Ronin blinked in surprise, before a surprisingly charming smile spread on his face, and he laughed too. Both of them were laughing, somewhere in a rainforest, with Ronin’s legs dangling off the ground.
Eh, maybe Dareth didn’t need to wonder what he saw in Ronin. He saw it, that was the important part.
8 or 17?
anon you did not specify so i decided to just go w lava bc i partake in them on occasion... love those doofs
8 - brushing hands by accident
It began simply. Getting ready to spar in the monastery, Cole had reached for his weapon at the same time as Kai. They didn’t have a proper rack for them, just all piled in a chest at the wall. And in doing so, Cole’s hand had gone over Kai’s, both gripping the same handle.
Kai must’ve startled at the touch or something, because Cole pulled back rather quickly. “Oops, sorry, wrong uh... handle.”
Kai didn’t respond, he was too busy quietly freaking out about it. How the hell were Cole’s hands that soft? The guy literally climbs mountains for a living and his touch was so... delicate.
Wait, I’m staring at him. He straightened up and glanced away, furrowing his brow. “Mhm. Right, let’s just... get on with it.” To be perfectly fair, Kai was only looking away to avoid Cole noticing his face slowly growing red. Why am I so flustered about this??? It was literally just hands???
He thought that would be the end of it, as he snatched his sword from the chest and walked briskly away. He thought that would be the end of his heart jumping into his chest when Cole’s hand so much as brushed his.
He was wrong, it happened again the next morning, going for the doorknob at the same time. And passing by each other in the hallway. And when Cole dropped a dozen things trying to carry them all like a gentleman. A stupid, pretty gentleman. Every time Kai just got more flustered about it. But he never really mustered up the courage to actually hold his hand, out of fear he’d make Cole uncomfortable.
But. There was a moment. A moment where he didn’t shy away.
They’d been split up, on separate duo missions, and Kai would be lying if he said he wasn’t anxious about it. It was their first duo mission, after all. They’d functioned as a team of four up till now, it just... it made him a little nervous. And it was likely obvious to Cole, what with how Kai fidgeted with his gi and glanced around their camp nervously, looking for signs of an ambush or something. Anticipating one.
Eventually, Cole piped up about it. “Y’seem pretty wired up, fireball. You good?”
Kai scoffed. “Me? Nervous? You got the wrong fire ninja, Brookstone.” But that cocky remark didn’t hide the anxious body language from Cole. Kai sighed slightly and leaned back on his hand, accidentally brushing it against Cole’s. He went to pull back, mumbling a “sorry”, but... Cole suddenly took his hand, scooping under it and holding it in a firm but soft grip. Delicate, like Kai expected.
Kai froze, for a second glancing at Cole, who coughed before speaking up again. “Hey, it’s... it’s gonna be alright, yknow. We can handle this, long as we’ve got each other’s backs we can handle this.”
Kai didn’t really answer, instead keeping his face turned away to avoid revealing how flushed he was. He felt kinda stupid, getting this worked up. Cole sighed quietly and rubbed his thumb over Kai’s knuckles, then kept talking.
“I’m nervous too. It’s alright to be nervous. But hey, we’ve got each other right now, and... honestly that’s enough. I’ve got you, spitfire.”
Kai turned around to look at him at that, surprised at his gentle words. Cole was wearing something of a soft smile that made Kai’s heart melt, and he flashed a little smile back.
“... thanks, Cole.”
“Anytime. I’m here for ya.”
Uhhh no title for this one
This is just the product of my brain when I ask “What if Cole had had Enough of Jay skirting around his actual attempts at flirting and passing them off as him trying to get with Nya, and got fed up with him and at the ToE duel just kissed him on the moUTH-” Enjoy!
A/N: I use fessin’ as a ninjagan version of frickin bc I physically cannot imagine jay saying frick, but he doesn’t swear in this so. also fessin sounds like someone tryna pronounce FSM phonetically (which is a thing I’ll talk about in my ninjagan expletives hc post in the near future)
15 w/ cole because It Just Makes Sense
Brain said it’s mudshock hours so i hope ur alright with that
15 - the biggest, warmest hugs
A/N: i’m basically taking a different perspective from their lil reunion hug in s11
“COLE!” Jay yelled, in surprise, and Nya’s head whipped around when he did in time to see Cole coming around the corner. Holy shit she couldn’t believe it. He really was alright!
“Jay! Nya!” Cole shouted in response, already bounding down the floor as Jay scrambled out from his hiding spot, Nya following close behind.
Jay practically bowled him over, but he managed to stand strong as he wrapped his arms around Jay, Nya jumping in a moment later and they were all pulled together in a close, fierce, warm hug.
Nya swept her arms up to lay a hand in Cole’s hair, sighing with relief. He was alright, thank the masters. And damn if she didn’t miss him. And his hugs. It was so warm here in his arms she could barely tell they were in an icy cave.
Jay, who had been shivering basically the whole hike up here to look for Cole, seemingly melted into his arms, not shaking at all. Nya smiled gently at them both, letting herself relax into the embrace as well. Cole’s arms were wrapped tight, like he was worried they’d be gone if he let go.
“Oh I’m so glad you guys are alright,” Cole mumbled, pulling back just slightly to hold them both gently, a relieved grin sitting on his face. Jay was wearing a similar look, face all red from cold.
“We’re alright? I’m glad you’re alright!” Jay shot back, shoving his face back into Cole’s shoulder. “Don’t you ever run off like that again, boulderbrain! You scared us!”
“I know, and I’m sorry,” Cole responded, cracking what was a sheepish grin. “I did find something, though!”
A growl startled both Jay and Nya out of Cole’s arms, looking at the huge, hairy... thing looming over his shoulder.
Well. That’s an abominable snowman. Jay squeaked. Nya dropped back into a fighting stance.
“What the heck is that?!” Jay shrieked.
“It’s a, uh...” Cole trailed off. “A Krag.”
A Bit Brighter
I caved and wrote something based on this one post @spinchip made... twas too good to pass up ngl (i Tried to keep their relationship vague, I really did, but im a sucker for polyninja. also this is my first time writing Zane-centric stuff so uh. Yeehaw)
-----
“Uh, Zane? Buddy?”
Zane looks up from the book in his lap with an inquiring “Hm?”. He’s seated cross-legged in the center of the otherwise-unoccupied couch in the monastery common room. It’s quite early in the morning, but that’s fine. Zane’s usually the first one up, anyhow.
Jay is apparently the second one up. He’s still in his pajamas, and is staring at Zane from the doorway with a surprised and perplexed expression, like this is perhaps the least-expected thing to find this morning.
“Isn’t that my hoodie?”
10 bruise
oh hell yeah!
10 - lifting someone up out of excitement
A/N: this is a ~light~ au where cole and jay only saw zane alive through the (theoretical) security cameras in chen's mansion and still had to find out where he was to rescue him
Cole crept along the floor, listening carefully ahead and behind him for anyone coming into the hallway. Maybe this was a terrible idea, trying to sneak into the surveillance room in Chen's basement, but it was the only thing he could think of to find out where Zane was. At least, the best bet he had while on his own.
His heart panged for a second. On my own... he was the first of the four of them to lose a challenge, and even while he'd befriended Karloff and that speedy guy, it was no matter when neither of them could be particularly stealthy without their powers.
So Cole was by himself on this little mission. And he was nearly at his destination, just outside the door to the surveillance room. He went to grab the handle and-
The door started to swing open, and he was on the opening side. Crap! Working on instinct, Cole leapt at whoever was coming out, grabbing the door handle and pulling it shut behind him as he tackled them. An Anacondrai skull, like the ones all the others wore, skittered across the floor, revealing that its wearer was-
"JAY?!" Cole yelped in surprise, promptly getting off of the disguised Lightning Master he'd tackled. Jay groaned, sitting up slowly.
"Sheesh, Cole, could you have tackled me any harder? I thought you got your super strength taken- wha!" Now it was Jay's turn to yelp, as Cole practically lifted him up and off his feet in an enthusiastic hug.
"Holy SHIT you're alright," Cole exclaimed, grinning up at Jay. "And you had the same idea as I did!" Jay blinked at him, then flashed a kinda endearing smile, tilting his head.
"Yeah! Guess we're finally on the same wavelength again. Dang if I didn't miss that, boulderbrain." He patted Cole's shoulder, and Cole sheepishly set him back down. "And I'm- hell, I'm glad you're alright too."
Cole kept smiling back. Man I needed that. Needed a friend. A... partner, I guess.
Shoot, is that weird to call him my partner in my head? Is that too romantic?
A small beep from the screens up on the desk alerted both of them to the real issue at hand - finding Zane. Jay scrambled back up to the desk and flicked through the monitor, Cole following suit.
"So did you find anything yet?" Cole asked Jay under his breath. Jay shook his head.
"Didn't really get the chance, I was looking outside in case anyone was coming when you tackled me. Guess someone was coming, heh," Jay remarked, bumping his shoulder into Cole's. Cole smiled again - he really couldn't stop smiling with Jay around - then turned his attention back to the flicking monitor. How Jay was able to make anything out how quick he was looking was beyond him, but if it works it works.
Then Cole saw it. "Stop!" he hissed, grabbing Jay's hand to halt him from flicking any more. Cole's other hand went up to his mouth, covering it in sheer shock.
There he was. Chained to the wall by his wrists, wearing a new titanium skin, eyes glowing blue as he looked around, occasionally right into camera. There was Zane. And he really was alive.
Jay whooped suddenly, and grabbed Cole in a hug. "He's alright! Holy CRAP he's alright!!" Cole found himself hugging back, almost near tears as he buried his head in Jay's shoulder.
"He's... alright." Maybe we're all gonna get out of this.
Hostiles
Here’s some funky fresh lil thing (that may or may not have a pt 2 in the works) w/ @spinchip‘s lovely oc Five! She has taken over my brain, I cannot stop thinking about her.
---
Perhaps it was not in Five’s best interest to take on every target at once. This combat hadn’t started with all of them, to be sure. Just two. Just the lightning master, and the fire one. By themselves, in an alleyway. It was meant to be quick.
But even with her heightened reflexes, the two hostiles were quicker.
She weaved between their strikes, able to keep from taking a hit, but not long enough to sap their powers. It had gone on like this for a good many seconds. Eventually, Five landed a strike on the fire master’s solar plexus, sending him sprawling against the wall of the building. Despite this being nothing more than her duty, Five smirked. All it would take is one more strike and-
The HUD in her vision flashed a warning. 1 Hostile approach- 2 Hostiles approaching.
The ground beneath her feet began to rumble and she ducked under a strike from the lightning master, blocking it and shoving him back before retreating just slightly, eyes up and scanning.
The earth master came out of the shadows, far into the alleyway, arms aglow like molten rock. Five scowled. A strange humming sound alerted her and she glanced back to see the energy master standing at the other end of the alley, his own arms fizzing with green light.
“We have you outnumbered,” the energy master spoke up, clear as day. “Stand down.” The fire and lightning masters stood up, looking ready to keep fighting. 4 Hostiles, her vision reminded her.
Five glared down the energy master, eyes scanning the whole alleyway. A plan formulated, within the blink of an eye. She met the green one’s gaze again. “I will not, Master of Energy,” she responded, cold and ominous.
In one quick movement she popped up an empty metal trashcan into the air and kicked it down the alley with surprising force, knocking the green one over and out. All at once combat began again. 3 Hostiles. The earth master charged her, and she redirected his momentum to crash into the fire master, turning her attention to the lightning master instead. He was fast on his own, but not fast enough to dodge her strikes.
Five would’ve had him, if not for the rumbling under her feet again. She jumped up and back onto a dumpster as the ground split, giving them all enough time to get their breath back.
“Mind telling us why you’re trying to fi-” The lightning master started to ask, but Five delivered a sharp, flying punch to his jaw, backing up into the earth elemental. He promptly tried to grapple her, but she gave him two quick elbows in the chest and he doubled backwards and doubled over with a grunt. The fire master filled his spot, and they engaged in a rapid exchanging of blows before Five ducked under his punch and boosted him over her shoulder, sending him sprawling into the lightning master. She whirled on her heels to face them, panting.
Her HUD flashed again. 1 Hostile approaching. Fantastic, now she was going to fight five? This was not going well. She formulated a new plan of retreat. It involved taking one of them down, using them as leverage. Quickly, she calculated exactly who would be best to take down at this moment.
Blue it is. Five lunged forward, catching the lightning master by his hood, and flung him forward into the side of a dumpster. He was surprisingly light. Upon impact he let out a sharp cry. Five wasted no time, pouncing on the lightning master and pinning him to the ground, knee on his back, arm pulled up behind him. The others started to approach them, but she grabbed the lightning master’s arm and held it in such a way that, with one wrong move, she could very well break his arm. The lightning master cried out again, in pain, and she stared the remaining two masters down, daring them to make her do it. They stopped in their tracks.
Two more energy signatures appeared, as two more figures landed in the alleyway, behind fire and earth. The reading in her vision was… surely malfunctioning. Because the hostile had made itself known, but there were two instead of one. One was the water master, as evident by her energy signal. And one was-
Five’s eyes widened. An android. Like herself. With a chronosteel core. There was only… one left like that. Five couldn’t believe it.
“Zero?” She said aloud, barely above a whisper. “Wh-“
Her next sentence was cut off by a grunt of pain. In all her shock, she’d faltered her grip on the lightning master, who had wriggled free and socked her in the jaw. She stood up off of him, dropping into a defensive stance and trying to be ready for the next strike, but she didn’t anticipate the sudden patch of ice creeping quickly over her feet.
Five scanned around wildly for the source, and found only the other elemental masters and Zero. Zero’s hand was up, and he looked stern and confused in the same expression. Five’s breathing quickened. Her HUD wouldn’t let her identify Zero as the ice master. But if her eyes didn’t deceive her… he was. What is going on? What is he doing?
She wrenched her feet free, letting out an enraged yell, and charged at Zero. A thousand thoughts ran through her head, a thousand feelings. Her HUD flashed a thousand messages at once.
5 Hostiles. Zero Detected. Ice Detected. 6 Hostiles.
Traitor-
She never got a chance to act on any of these messages. They blinded her, in that moment. The earth master threw out his arm and clotheslined her, slamming her back into the ground with the force of a mountain. She let out a cry, but the impact cut her short. The last thing she saw before her body entered involuntary sleep mode were the wide, confused eyes of Zero. Looking like he didn’t know her. Didn’t recognize her. Her last thought echoed in the darkness that faded in.
Traitor.
