What’s funny is that I’ve found Actual Adults™ write better smut anyway, and that’s besides the fact they often have more writing experience in general so??? Like y’all I can guarantee all of the 30+ year-olds writing fanfic are going to be miles better and more experienced 😆

On the one hand I can only imagine this sort of mentality stems from a lot of the bullshit expiration dates that get put on a) fandom interests (a childish notion) and b) women (given the usual makeup of fanfic-heavy fandom spaces) and there’s a shitton to unpack there that I haven’t the time or the resources to expand on fully save to say that it’s a bunch of goddamn bullshit.

BUT ALSO.  Like.  My darling dears.  My good and gentle dudes.  The more you write, the better your writing gets.  The more experiences you have to draw from (of all kinds, not just sexual, but by god that does help), the better your writing gets.  The more you grow to understand how people behave, the better your writing gets.  You don’t get good stories by shoving people out of fandom when they reach their expiration date like a knock-off Logan’s Run.  Insisting older adults (and by that I mean tumblr’s definition of older adults which is anybody over the goddamn age of 30 - which I promise you, you’re all gonna find out real hard and real fast how little you feel like a fucking adult in your 30s anymore) need to get offline and stop writing smut would only result in one hell of a content drought.
