Is there a snack you like to eat while writing?
Anything that keeps my hands free. Crackers and peanut butter, but usually I’ll just have a drink.
What time of day do you usually write?
At night, but usually I try and write whenever I have free time tbh, and I always have my ideas for stories/plots on the backburner all throughout my day, even if I’m not able to type it out.
How often do you write a new novel?
Uh, it depends on the length. But probably in terms of original stuff, 130 pages a year? As for fanfiction, the longest thing I ever wrote all by myself is Anchor which is the length of a novel (116,313 words) and I wrote it in roughly 4 and a half months, so I guess that’s my record! :P
Do you listen to music while you write?
Yes, always. Lots of time I take lyrics for song titles, or at least inspiration, and music actually helps me focus.
What’s your writing utensil? Paper or laptop?
Laptop if I can! But I will use pen and paper when I away from my precious laptop, and scribble down ideas.
Do you have a special pre-writing ritual?
Nah. Sometimes if it’s been a while since I worked on something, I’ll go back and reread what I’ve already written to make sure I’m on track; or, even if it’s only been a day or an hour or two, to make sure I have the right mood for the scene. Having a good song to listen to is also very important.
What do you do to get into the writing mood?
Nothing, usually. I just sit down and think about what I want to work on (or should be working on) and start typing. If it’s the right story, it usually comes pretty easily for me.
What do you always have near the place you write?
Just my laptop. But I can’t focus that well with lots of distractions unless I’m super inspired.
Do you have a reward system for word counts?
No. I try to have every chapter be around 2,000+ words, for Anchor my goal was 3,000+ words every chapter. It varies on the fic, and how much I think needs to be included. Really it’s just whatever feels right.
Is there anything else about your writing process your readers don’t know?
If I’m struggling with the beginning of a chapter, lots of times I’ll scrap whatever I’ve started and start from scratch, and it’s a lot easier that time. I also find the most important thing for starting and actually finishing a project/fic is to find something you think will be fun/exciting/interesting to write in every chapter!
