👋🏼 Hi! I’m Winter (she/her), a writer on the cusp of Gen X and Millennial, writing character-driven queer fiction in altered states and liminal spaces. My stories are inspired by city streets and stormy seas, scars and synchronicity, synesthesia and l’appel du vide.

🌈 It always makes happy to encounter queer characters (like me) whose identity and narrative aren’t limited to or by their queerness, so I’m writing the characters I want to see in the stories I want to read.

i am a writer of speculative fiction, a poet on occasion, and artist. you'll find a smattering of all those things here, along with other musings from me. i enjoy dabbling in many different genres to challenge myself, but spec fiction is my bread and butter.

my work is for anyone who has something trapped inside of them that is trying to claw its way out; for anyone seeking catharsis veiled in a world that is fantastical as it is gritty. it doesn't have to be pretty. there is no right way to feel it.

i am a novelist-in-progress! my current WIP, the russet dragon, is a high fantasy that explores themes of environmentalism, gender roles, trust, and how the values we are taught to have can misalign with our authentic selves. as well as drafting this project, i am working on short stories, vignettes, and poems that i may share here.

It’s a pleasure to meet you! I’m a writer who is currently working on a story called: “The Tales of Selcouth: The Crux”

Let’s see… what do I know about myself?

Well I’m an adult for starters, in college for a graphic design degree, love writing, art, and crochet, and I definitely enjoy my original story and the characters!

I’d like to think I’m a friendly person, and my main is @the-book-on-necromancy (don’t be surprised if you see a follow from that account!)

I’m writing this story for fun and I hope to make some friends along the way :)

Anyways, let’s talk about The Tales of Selcouth: The Crux, shall we?

Here’s some things you need to know about it:

W.I.P. — a few small stories here and there but nothing concretely written, still in the brainstorming stage.

Rating — Mature, deals with a lot of pretty dark topics, a few open comments about sexual stuff but nothing explicit in that realm.

Genre — High Fantasy! Based (heavily) off of Dungeons and Dragons! However, I might change some terms to comply with copyright if this does turn into something.

Tags — Adventure, Found Family, Healing from Past Traumas, Love, Friendship, Magic, Unspecified Magic System, Death, A Little Bit of Slow Burn, Large Group Adventures, Kingdoms, Fantasy, High Fantasy, etc.

Howdy! Welcome to my blog!

I’m CB, short for C. Brookes. I am 18 and in college pursuing a degree in English, with the hope of one day being an author! I use vae/vaer/vaer/vaers/vaerself (singular). I also have ADD (attention deficit disorder), as well as anxiety and depression!

This is mainly a personal blog, but I also post about my writing! Mostly, I like to read and write fantasy. My main project is called Project Opal! To summarize: “Man flees assassination attempts. Friends pursue. Other friend flees unrelated assassination attempt. Hijinks ensue.”

My dearest, most beautiful Milabelle (@trash-bin-ary) is my QPP, and the light of my life :3

For fandoms, I post about A Hat in Time, In Stars and Time, Hollow Knight, EPIC: The Musical, and possibly others. Fandoms I don’t post about but still enjoy include Pokémon, Baba Is You, Undertale, Deltarune, both Portal games, Stardew Valley, and anything I remember later and add on. Not fandoms, but sometimes I’ll also post about Ado and plushies.

I also post about my writing, my college experience, and thoughts about being median/a system not anymore, those go on my system blog. And of course random jokes here and there.

I don’t have much regarding a DNI list. This is an SFW blog, so keep that in mind when interacting. And if you swear in my replies or asks, I’ll just delete it. Like I said earlier, it’s my blog, I can do what I want. And what I want is a safe space. I’ll also delete any asks that do stuff like ask for money or promote any particular cause, because that’s just not something I want to interact with—and I will delete them indiscriminately, regardless of what they promote or don’t promote.

I also post about figuring out… myself, I guess. Sometimes I vent. Sometimes I talk about depression or anxiety.
