PSA for Google Docs Users Migrating to Ellipsus

I figured out the simplest way to import a GoogleDocs document into Ellipsus that doesn't involve using a third party site or converter:

In your GoogleDoc: Click the File menu, then Download, and then choose the option for Markdown (.md).

It's that simple. Ellipsus has an option to import Markdown files, and it worked great. I started with this monster fic because it is the largest file I have. Ellipsus converted it fine, and I didn't even lose my formatting or headings. 😮‍💨

I'm gonna have to look into getting an external HD or a big flash drive, just to move everything to from the cloud storage at some point, as my Chromebook does not have the space for me to store everything on it (well over a decade of writing).

EDITING TO ADD: Apparently googledocs locking down your stuff for lewd content was debunked. Having backups and alternatives is still a good idea though. But it is a relief to know my stuff isn't in imminent danger. 😮‍💨

PSA to people with writer moots!

Writers love getting questions! If they reblog an ask game, probably the most supportive and loving thing you can do is ask “Hey, can I bombard your inbox with these?” And if they say yes, do it! They absolutely will not mind!

I’m speaking from experience here, too. I love it when it happens to me, my fellow storytellers love when it happens to them. We do not care if it’s the same person sending ten asks! We love that, actually!

And while we’re at it - orbs. In the name of all that shines, stop using the word ‘orbs’ for ‘eyes’. Why? Well, think about it. If you can see someone’s eyes are orbs, that means they’re hanging outside the person’s body. That is not sexy.

I just wanted to say thank you for putting your AO3 link up. There are so many times I've seen authors mention their fics, or post excerpts, and then not link to the story, or mention the story's name, or what their AO3 handle is, or ANYTHING, and I'm just sitting there holding this scrap of writing and wanting more.

first of all, you're so very welcome! and i am incredibly happy to hear something i wrote made you want more 💛🥰

now allow me, my anon friend, to use this as a bit of a PSA for all my writer friends. because so many of us get self conscious about reblogging our own fics and headcanons, showing pride in what we wrote and wanting the world to see it. so many people don't have a writing tag, a master list (*hides*) or a link to their ao3.

i'm telling you now: reblog your fic. show the world that it's okay and valid and wonderful to love your own words and ideas. so many fics get lost in time zones, reblog that fic you wrote last year, talk about your long-ass wip on tumblr. be loud, be proud, be there.

you don't get only one try to yell your words out at the world. repeat them until we've all heard them. you deserve this, and we deserve to love your fics as much as you do 💛
