I'm going to be using my time this holiday break to start another writing project. But I'm just not sure which one I should be taking up. Here are the ideas that have been floating around in my head:
First, I would like to do a piece on Altruistic Objectivism. It's hard to find well-known philosophers who used their roots of objectivism for anything other than egoism and Rand's supported version of laissez-faire capitalism. I want to write something which highlights the ability of inductive logic and individual worth leading to a fairly altruistic lifestyle and view, because that's the conclusion I've always drawn from the combination of the concept of valid truths and ethical ramifications. In short, I want to show definitively WHY philosophers like Rand and Bernstein have arguments that do not necessarily follow from their premises at all, and are merely coloured by an influence in the political and economic climate of their time. But, obviously, I would have to look through a lot of different texts to back up a lot of my claims. I do eventually plan on writing this in my life no matter what, but I can assuredly say that it will take up to a year, if not more.
Secondly, I would probably like to write something like a guide to veganism and the many facets of activism - animal, human, environmental - involved in it. It's just sort of hitting me recently that I have helped over 100 people go vegan, and that's only in the first few years of my own advocacy. I want to keep up that sort of motivation that I had early on, but I want to find the best way to do it. I know there are a lot of texts and books available on the subject, many which either in my opinion make light of the real reasons and consequences that should be examined, or are targeted at a somewhat immature crowd (books that tell you what celebrities are vegan and how much weight you'll lose, really dumb inconsequential things). I want to sit somewhere between academic and everyday reading with this, but I'm not sure what sort of format it will take - how long do I spend explaining the roots of veganism? What do I highlight first? And how do I do it? What sort of resources should take precedence?
Third is a fiction work that carries off the short story that I wrote for Bearable Parables, which would be an astrophysics romance-comedy. Which sounds way dorky I guess, and I don't even know where to start, so I'm sticking that on the back burner for now.
Fourth, I really just want someone to suggest a topic or area of research for me to write about. Got any suggestions, dear followers?
