//Poetry and Mother// My mother doesn't understand the poetry I write. She says, "Why do you keep saying this feels like that and that looks like this? Can't you just call it beautiful and end it?" My mother calls poets nothing but people who make great comparisons between sights, objects and sensations - "the more insane it sounds, the more attention it gets which I fail to understand." I tried explaining Bukowski's work to her and she labelled him as a "misogynistic mad-man". I admit I laughed like a hyena and so did she. "Insults are funny, aren't they." My mother frowns at words like 'fuck' and 'whore' but are they the only words she sees in a poem on human trafficking? Probably. "Your grandpa was a renowned poet and he never used cuss words." So mother, I'm going to hide this piece somewhere you can never sniff it out from because this poem here is about poetry and you. And to your great annoyance, I've used a similie too.
