described windows as "see-through" in my current fic, get on my level bitches
Ayda had known what constructs were, but the full reality of it hadn’t hit until she had listened to SecUnit coax Volescu out of the pit as the jerky video had played in their team feed. Along with the horror of what had just happened, there had been the dawning realization that they had fallen into thinking of their SecUnit as a faceless machine, a convenience, an interface with their security system. But it had taken a sentient being who understood fear and pain to talk its way through Volescu’s blind terror.
Except you fuckers are surrounded by "faceless machines" all day that you know are people, that you treat as second class citizens
This is why if you refuse to plan ahead at the very fucking least you need to read what you already fucking wrote!
Book 1 tries to tell us these people just had absolutely no conception that robots were people at all. We're told they're just completely innocent little babies who didn't know any better and thought Murderbot was just a mindless machine. Because they just don't have robots where they're from!
Except then we get this short story, and book 6, that shows they were lying through their fucking teeth about everything they said in book 1, and all because Martha Wells couldn't be assed to do a basic continuity check before actually showing us what life on Preservation is like.
So now the characters she told us in book 1 were just completely innocent and ignorant through no fault of their own are in fact lying liars who knew the whole time that robots are people and that Murderbot was a slave they were treating like an object.
You do not have to plant ahead. But if you won't even look back to make sure you're not contradicting what you already wrote, you're going to end up doing shit like this, where you make slave owners retroactively even worse people by revealing that they have in fact. Spent their whole lives surrounded by robots they know are people.
Which means they're just lying in book 1 when they said they Just Had No Idea that Murderbot was a person.
This story also continues to insist on calling the people that were enslaving Murderbot "its clients" as though it had chosen to work for them of its own free will. And not that it was a slave and they were enslaving it.
If I had a [insert currency of your choice] for every time I accidentally wrote "wipe" instead of "wips" I could afford going to the ice cream parlor in this economy
I too am a superior character woman with only two days period.
I truly believe that anyone who’s written Witcher fanfiction has, at *least* once, written Geralt as “Gerlat”
TFW you realize you've been getting a department name wrong because the way that you have it written flows better than the way that it's actually written and you want to shrivel up and die because the Author chose incorrectly.
7, 9, 18 & 25 for the fanfiction asks! :3
Thank youuuu!!
7. longest completed fic you wrote this year What's Mine Is Yours (To Leave Or Take) was the longest I wrote exlucisvely this year. Good as Gold was finished at the very beginning of the year as well, but was primarily written last year.
9. longest wip of the year Pretty sure this one is Cat!Jask. I was 38k in when I had to start rewriting bc my writing style had changed too much. So technically now there is probably about 45k worth of writing.
18. current number of wips Rude of you to make me publicly shame myself like this kldfhlkashdflk current wips: 134 give or take a few that haven't been added to my drive yet (I'm including anything here that has a plot I could write from immediately, this doesn't include vague ideas)
25. a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read Does it count if I just list all my friends and tell everyone to read their fics? Uhhh, I know @theamazingbard wrote an excellent vampire fic, @greyduckgreygoose wrote a predator/prey fic I think about every day, every single fic people wrote me for my birthday?? GOD, I feel like I have read nothing but I have actually read so much, just only fics by my friends skdjhakldsfh (time is hard to find these days) but anyway, you can always check out my fic recs if you want to find some excellent reading material.
