As writers, we always have that one nook or cranny that becomes our permanent writing spot. It is there that we feel the most concentrated and inspired to write and create. However, this cozy, familiar kingdom of ours can get rather lonesome. As if throwing a temper-tantrum, our brain decides respond to this unhappy isolation by clogging up our creative gears.

Here are 13 literary luminaries who found their ideal writing spots far beyond the creative confines of a desk.
My quirky place to write is in bed. I have a lap desk with a padded bottom and a clip board built-in. Along with printouts of what I’ve written so far I happily pen away. I also have a wooden bed desk for my laptop so I often type in my edits while in bed. This desk also serves as a research desk with a pocket on either side for folders and additional books.
Some people may see this as the ultimate in lazy but there's actually method to my madness. The master bedroom is coolest in summer and warmest in winter. Suffering from asthma like I do I need to be able to control my environment. Another plus is that my fuzzy kids are close-by so I can care for them as well or seek some playtime distraction.
And I'm not the only one who writes in bed!
