Happy Storyteller Saturday. What is a topic that you write about that can be found in most of your writing?

Omg hi, Happy Storyteller Saturday! Thanks for the question! Hmmm: I would say my absolute favorite topic to write about is wariness.

You’re probably like tf does that mean, so let me explain: Character A doesn’t like character B. Heck, maybe character B doesn’t like character A either. Maybe it’s because something happened in their past, maybe it’s because ‘he’s just too obnoxious,’ or maybe ‘ugh, look at her face. she’s 100% a snob’ (real story - it’s just my natural face lmao T-T)

Because of preconceived notions or rash assumptions the characters have already decided to make a personality judgement based on wariness - until they get to know each other.

There’s something so fun about writing misunderstandings between people. Maybe that’s just my inner problematic self speaking, but I love conflict between two imperfect dumbos. I love when two people take a step back from their unjustified dislike/hatred and start to realize that maybe the other person actually isn’t the problem - maybe they are. I love when fiction parallels reality.

Because the truth is, everyone has some kind of unjustified wariness about someone in their lives - and until we open ourselves up to others, we’re not gonna have our much-needed character development.

Almost the entire population feels misunderstood at some level. Feeling misunderstood is not a abnormal, or unique feeling. It is completely normal to feel not normal.

It can be a bumpy process, but understanding ourselves is critical. When we understand ourselves, we are able to convey who we are to others. Along with what we need from them, and what they need to understand about us.

Purple

Purple: Which of your characters would become your sworn enemy?

Well, I created a very complex character for my novel, who's absolutely the kind of person you can't appreciate.

He's an arrogant man who gained a very dangerous power a long time ago. When he looks in your eyes, he's able to see all the possible futures you might have, but he always focuses on the two biggest probabilities. So since he's able to see those futures, he loves to play with his guests, sometimes pushing them to desperate situations simply because it amuses him (suicide, sacrifices, treasons...)

Rather than being an ally or an enemy, he always places himself in a grey area, changing his mind whenever he feels like it, where his guests are never sure what are his intentions, and which side he would choose. Of course, he's responsible of a tragedy among my main characters, that's why he would become my sworn enemy. He's too twisted and unpredictable to be really liked!

I named him Saito, and he's the mage of Aeris, the Grey Castle.
