Sunlight peeked in through the curtains of the apartment. The window slightly opened to let in the breeze, the sounds of cars passing barely audible. With a groan and a stretch, Dabi turned away from the window, still full of sleep. His arm reached across the bed to find the warmth he missed. His fingers danced around only to find- nothing.
Dabi squinted against the sunlight, scanning the bed. A slight curse left his lips as he sat up, bedsheet falling on his lap. His hands gently rubbed the sleep from his eyes, falling back down to his lap. The mirror across the room pictured him, his torso bare and decorated with bloomed love bites. It took a minute for his brain to come to, Dabi yawning as he stretched.
"Baby?" The deep voice whispered, half-lidded eyes looking out the hall to the bathroom. The door was wide open, no sound that you were around.
Dabi stood up, chills running up his body at the cold floor on his feet. He walked out of the room, looking around for any sign of you. His voice called out to you once more, hand ruffling his hair. Sleepy eyes turned to your voice, a muffled "coming!" making Dabi look toward the kitchen.
You exited the tiny laundry room, closing the door behind you. Dabi's shirt hung off your shoulders, your bare feet leading you to your boyfriend. "Hey, sorry, did I wake you?"
Dabi always assured you that he was a heavy sleeper and that he simply woke up on his own. But this time, as you stood in front of your boyfriend, he nodded. "Yeah, you weren't next to me, so I had to get up."
You couldn't help the pout that appeared, standing on your toes to press your lips to his scarred cheek. "I'm sorry, love. I just needed to do the laundry, or else I wouldn't have clothes for today."
Dabi moved his head, lips landing on yours in a lazy kiss. His hand moved to your waist, bunching his shirt up to caress your skin. "Make it up to me," He whispered against your lips. Dabi's arms wrapped around your body, pressing you against him. Your arms wrapped around his neck, fingers getting lost in his white hair. "Stay in bed with me,"
With a giggle, you pulled back only to get yanking into Dabi's chest again. "I have things to do today-"
"Like what?" With his lips against yours, Dabi questioned you. You melted into your boyfriend's hold, drunk on him. You tried to answer him, stuttering over your words as Dabi chuckled. "Exactly, stay with me, sweetheart, we can watch any movie you want." With another lazy kiss, Dabi towed you back into your bedroom, grinning as you stumbled along.
You laid on Dabi, cheek on his collar as your fingers traced random shapes into his chest. Your eyes focused on the bright world outside your window, listening to the faint world pass by.
Dabi's fingers moved up and down your spine, his shirt long gone from your body. His blue eyes watched yours dance around, head tilted as he admired you. His lips landed on your forehead, giving you a soft kiss. The world froze for a moment, giving Dabi the chance he needed.
"I love you, sweetheart."

Acceptance was... hard. People talked a lot about how it gets easier as time passes. But it’s been three months and the wounds feel fresh as if they happened mere hours ago.
Your usual routine changed, now doing everything for one. Waking up and making one cup of coffee, one plate of food, doing things for one person. After a year with them, it was strange not having your other half.
And maybe it was for the best, separating and living for just yourself. To fix your temper, your insecurities, your bad habits.
At least, you would’ve if you were given the chance.
You sat in your tub, the once-hot water now warm, creeping into the cold side. Your head was full with thoughts that you didn’t hear the door open and the shuffle of clothes coming off. Not until you felt the familiar body slide in the tub behind you, cursing softly.
“Baby, the water is cold...” You didn’t answer, your shoulders just rising and falling. You watched the hand of your ex reach forward, his chest pressing to your back.
The gurgle of the water startled you, or maybe it was the lips on your shoulder. Either way, Keigo smiled, turning the water on and making sure to fill the tub up with hot water again. You watched as the water slowly left, goosebumps appearing on your skin from the cold room. Keigo plugged the tub again, pulling you back into him as his wings wrapped around you, shielding you from the cold. His lips lightly tracing your shoulder, peppering soft kisses.
You remembered normal weekends like this, your eyes closed and leaning back into your boyfriend’s chest, enjoying the warmth and taking in the love Keigo gave you. But right now, you weren’t in a relationship with a Keigo and this wasn’t like other times.
Keigo broke up with you because he felt that you deserved more than what he was offering you. Hero work got to be too much and when he realized how long he’d been with you, he got scared. So he left you.
“I’ve always been on my own so this is all just so sudden... I’m so sorry, I just need some time for myself.”
And in a blink of an eye, you were alone.
“You changed shampoo? I thought you liked the other one,” Keigo commented, eyes reading the new bottle.
“It reminded me too much of you,” The words were whispered, but Keigo heard them, hand reaching over to turn the water off once the tub was filled.
“Is that a bad thing?” He laughed, trying to lighten the mood. His golden eyes looked at you, watching as you just stared at the same spot on the wall. Keigo gently cupped your cheek, pulling you to look at him. “Baby-“
“I can’t keep doing this...”
Keigo stared at you as you finally broke. He remembered how you smiled at him when he broke up with you. You assured him that you were fine and that it hurt but you understood him. Keigo felt relieved that you didn’t feel too bad, not wanting to leave you hurt.
He visited you at random times and you always seemed well put. Nothing ever out of the ordinary, but he never really paid attention. He knew he loved you and he wanted to be with you, but it was that fear that bubbled up when he thought too much about it.
But your smiles and conversations were forced when he randomly showed up. You tensed up when he hugged you or caressed your cheek. You stayed quiet when he joined in your bath or shower. The once shared bed was perfect, looking like you never slept on it because you never did.
“You broke up with me, you left me, you broke me...” You sobbed, turning away from Keigo. “But you come back like nothing and you treat me like we’re still together. I’m hurting Keigo, and this isn’t helping!”
Keigo didn’t know what to do, hands froze on the sides of the tub, eyes staring at you as he tried to find something so he can assure you that he still cared.
“Are we dating or not?”
The question made Keigo stop breathing. He thought about you, your smiles, and your unconditional love. The way you held him when he was stressed or after a mission that was too much. When you kissed his cheek the moment you woke up before making him breakfast. Keigo loved the way your eyes lit up whenever he returned from work, excited to have him back safely.
“I... We...”
“It’s a yes or no, Keigo!”
Your voice got loud, your sobs coming out harder. Keigo reached for your arm, flinching as you slapped his hand away. Keigo didn’t know how to answer, wanting to be with you but terrified of it as well.
You turned to look at Keigo, eyes red and puffy as you unclogged the tub, standing and wrapping yourself in a towel. You ignored the shivers that racked your body, hair damp and sticking to you.
“Wait-“
“How about I answer for you?” You snapped, glaring at Keigo who stared up at you. He wanted to scramble out of the tub and to apologize for everything.
But what was his answer?
“Get out. Don’t come back, got it?”
Golden orbs watched you leave, bedroom door slamming shut and muffled sobs escaping.
Keigo finally knew his answer.

A thought: Kuroo would be the type to notice you during a zoom call in class and unmute himself just to politely let the teacher know that he has a question. Then immediately say your name to get your attention and ask if he can get your info so he can text you
