Day 11 of the #writerslifeigjune #instagramchallenge by @madetowrite #writingnotebooks For anyone who follows me and my posts, you have seen more than a glimpse of my collection. It's nearly endless and almost completely thanks to @m.s.harris She sends me more than I buy but she finds much cuter things than me. My desk is struggling to hold all my supplies, this is getting out of hand. 😆😅 #ecthorn #wrino #challenge #wrinos #writer #author #writerslife #brainstorming #worldbuilding #books #notebooks #bookstagram #writersoftumblr #writersofig #writersofinstagram #blogging #blogger

WRITING NOTEBOOKS IS BACK
Yes, I’m back. Gonna be updating regularly again.
1. Life Update
I first started this blog in, what, December 2012? I created it for personal inspiration -- because looking at pictures of notebooks inspires me to fill empty pages in my own. The fact that over 15,000 of you feel the same way thrills me!
I was a college junior at the time -- I updated often when I was on study abroad in the spring, where I wrote a lot because I was lonely, and over the summer because I was online a lot from freelance writing and marketing responsibilities, and over senior year because I was trying not to think about the future, like really, because I always loved being a student and I didn’t want to go and I was certain they were gonna have to drag me across that graduation stage kicking and screaming.
And then I did graduate, and it was stressful, because all I knew is that I wanted to be something that couldn’t financially support me -- at least not now -- not when I’m a 2014 graduating millenial living in a country, an economy, that also couldn’t support me in the way I needed to be supported. Not with student loan debt. Not with minimum wage being what it is. Not with my total unwillingness to work in any of the industries that pay incredibly well, because all I could see in those fields was a kind of sacrifice I was unwilling to make. Because I want to be a writer. That’s it. I write. I’ve always written. I always will write. To quote Gloria Steinem, “Writing is the only thing that when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.” So I let the blog slip after I graduated, because I was in survival mode, and anything that wasn’t writing or didn’t contribute to my continued survival went out the window. And now, two years later, I’m slowly starting to ease out of survival mode and get back to enjoying my life and the things I really want to do.
Currently, I work in an independent bookstore, which I love but I guarantee is more work than you think. (INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY IS THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 30 BY THE WAY. It’s gonna be a party. Find your local participating store here.)
I write as much as I can (but I could write more, so that’s a goal for improvement).
I’m slowly letting go of the anxiety and depression that built up when I was in survival mode. If there’s anyone out there currently going through this -- it gets better.
I’m gradually re-introducing old hobbies into my life. This is one of them. Hellooooo.
2. I won’t be answering more questions.
The thing I like most about curating this blog is the in-the-zoneness of looking for beautiful pictures, finding beautiful pictures, posting and resharing beautiful pictures. I feel a bit like I making a scrapbook, assembling all of these things that have affected me in one continuous flow. It’s cathartic as hell. And all the positive affirmations I get from you fellow notebook fiends doesn’t hurt.
BUT there are a lot of you, and only one of me, and did I ever mention that I’m a pretty serious introvert? It gets overwhelming to try to keep up with the constant inflow of messages, not to mention the backlog of stuff I never got to. So I would procrastinate on doing the thing I really wanted to do -- updating the blog -- because I was feeling guilty about all the messages piling up.
I do love getting your questions, and I love when I can respond and recommend and suggest and help, especially when it resonates with lots of other people too, but it’s honestly too much for me to keep up with! So for now I’m going to close down the ask section. I apologize if I never got around to responding to you. I still love you. <3
So that’s that! Regular updates are happening again. All of you are wonderful. It feels good to be back.
journaling & coffee & moleskine & other common notebook tags
In case you haven't noticed yet, I've changed the blog format because I didn't like the way the old one handled text posts. If anyone finds problems with it (eye strain, not dyslexia-friendly, etc), please don't hesitate to let me know!
I've also updated the about me page -- there's now a few more links to my other blogs, my "Journaling Your Goals" ebook, and a donate button, just in case anyone is feeling generous...
And, best of all (!!!) I now have a page of common tags! I've been promising that I would do this for...I don't want to admit how long. But now it's here.

recovering from the exams
writingnotebooks Your blog inspired me to get back into writing in notebooks. Writing is a hobby of mine, simply writing. I've mixed favorite quotes, small creative thoughts, terminology, and things people suggest to me. I also collage all of my favorite doodles and sketches from notes and put them inside(my notebook has three sections; lined, grid, blank). Frankly, thank you for inspiring me. Thank you.
