Can someone explain to me why seven years ago, when I was only 15 with no relationship experience AT ALL, I was relatively good at writing cute fluffy romance scenes.
And now, at 23--married with two kids, no less--I cannot write fluff to save my life!
Antonym for 'Marriage'?
I'm working on a piece right now, essay style, because that's what I like to write, and I've come across an unusual problem: I can't find a direct antonym for "marriage".
And let me explain, I know the general definition of what I want is "single status" or "unattached lifestyle", but, I want one noun to sum that up that elevates that status without any negative connotations. For standard societal couples they have so many terms and colloquialisms: "marriage", "matrimony", "tie the knot", "get hitched", "wedlock", "nuptials", "going down the aisle", etc. Not to mention all the positive aspects that come with weddings, like starting a new life, true love, celebration, festivity, party, presents, joy, another chapter in the book, etc.
Part of the problem for aros &/or aces (anyone in the LGBTQ+ world really), is that we do not have the terminology to explain everything we experience. So, we are belittled for wishing to remain single, because we don't have the vocabulary to justify what we're talking about. Everything that's stereotyped as "single status" is negative, and generally frowned upon or required to change in society. Being single means: sadness, lonliness, that person is open to date/marry, just got out of a marriage & possibly going through terrible divorce process right now, I can complete them, they need a man/woman in their life, crying, etc. That ^ is not what I picture, but it's what comes to mind as how society portrays it. (Although, I think for men, it can be portrayed as a celebratory aspect because it means they can party and sleep with whoever they want.)
But seriously, if anyone has ideas as to what I can use, feel free to share them with me. Or if we need to make up new words to satisfy our needs, that's totally cool too: if Shakespeare could create a good portion of the English language 400 years ago that still exists today, then so can I, or anybody who needs to do so.
I have a problem, and it's called: Ignoring that Google Docs exists & instead abusing the hell out of Gmail.
I will also blame the fact that my creativity, without fail, ramps up specifically when I'm outside trudging around w/ my senile, ancient golden retriever. Who has time to open a doc when you're reminding an old man he's got business to attend to, ya know?
My man likes when I write in the same room as him, but how do I politely tell him that his yelling at 13 y/o kids on Battlefield ain't setting the mood for the sensual love scene I'm working on???
Ever writing a story and you haven’t included one of the characters for awhile and then they burst in on a scene that you weren’t planning on having them be in but it’s too late to go back now and it changes the whole plot acceleration of the story?
Petition for Tumblr to make an update where you can put a continue reading line on mobile.
So I just created a random character in my story that was originally just supposed to be in the background and only get mentioned like once but then he ended up being this adorable little thing and now he’s one of the main character’s best friends and I just . . . woops. How does this even happen.
