"This book is so amazing, I wish could do that, I'd never be able to write like this..." STOP IT. LISTEN TO ME. IF YOU CAN READ IT, YOU CAN WRITE IT. IF YOU CAN READ IT, YOU CAN WRITE IT. IF YOU CAN READ IT, YOU CAN WRITE IT. Yes, you can. Yes, you can. YES. YOU. CAN. If you've read a 100k+ novel then you know all the words another person used to construct a narrative that moved you. You have all the right words already, you just have to put them in order. If you text your friends you write likely four hundred to a thousand words a day. "But it sounds awful, I hate it." So rewrite it. Take it apart word by word. Rearrange it. Read more books, take in more words to use, more sentence structures to arm yourself with, more techniques. Do not throw it out. Trust the process. Write, edit, assess, write, edit, assess. If you can read it- YOU CAN WRITE IT.

This might be the hardest month of the last decade of my life. So much grief so many losses, so much bullshit to worry about. The job hunt is currently just a nightmare and good people are suffering left and right. The world is truly on fire and I'm just trying my best to pour that into what I do

Chapter 4 is currently sitting at 3,400 words so far cleaned up and edited and closer to 7,000 words accounting for the unedited portion. I'm hopeful soon we'll have more ready to read and Chapter 5 can begin!

Been a minute since I've posted- sort of slowed down in my writing, maybe I'm overthinking it but I'm just trying to be neat and do some good quality editing as we move into chapter 4! Stay tuned and if you're reading, keep reading!

I just finished reading Sense and Sensibility, and I'm about 50 pages into Ender's Game- and like- I don't know how to feel about it. The difference in the two writer's style is so jarring that at first I honestly just despised Ender's Game. I'm aware of Orson Scott Card's problematic nature and don't support it at all, but as a science fiction writer, I thought reading this book would help me expand my horizons a little on describing the technology involved in such settings and just in general help with telling an effective futuristic story. That being said, the amount of little boy humor is just killing me. This story can't go two sentences without mentioning farts, butts, pricks or balls, and I am so sick of it already. It's so annoying and childish, I can't even.

Woke up early and decided to use this as a chance to do some editing and clean up on Chapter 3. Since I can't write at work, I've only been able to add bits and pieces to the book here and there, often through screenshotting notepad paragraphs and copy pasting them to the doc but that causes some formatting issues, so things definitely need to be cleaned up. And of course, that is also just the nature of writing, the first draft can have some weird and wonky sentences that need to just fully be re-written and scrapped. I tend to cover the entire first draft with highlighting and then, as I tweak and review the writing sentence to sentence, I gradually remove the highlighting from portions I feel are passable and do not need to be edited.

One of my favorite experiences as a writer, is remembering I have free will to write whatever the f I want, including casting my irl problems and enemies as villains in my fictional world. Real life inspires some of the best and most realistic conniving bad guys- let me tell you

This is your reminder that you HAVE to be well-read to be well-written. You MUST diversify your pallet and read a large variety of things to refine your abilities if you have any intention to write something of inspirational and timeless quality. Read the classics if you want your story to survive a few years of change, as these are the books that have stood the test of time. Regardless of genre or setting, seek famously good books who have remained beloved for more than the last five years. It is tempting to read the trendy stuff filling the shelves today, but taking creative inspiration from already derivative and repetitive works will only water down the originality of what you create as well. That is not to say that all of contemporary literature is worthless swill, but if it is your only material for your own works, you're will be closer to that than theirs was, due to a lack of refreshing ideas. So read a huge variety, with a focus on the greats, and then make something of your own that both builds on their strengths, and exceeds their weaknesses.
