Here is Johanna's lot so far. She might have a broken bathroom door and a smelly trash bed, but at least she has a toilet and shower.

She was also very excited about the tree I put there.

My first attempt at the weekly speaking challenge! I tried, and it’s kind of really awful, but oh well, practice makes perfect! If there’s any corrections(idioms, wrong word, grammar etc), please let me know. I tried to correct as much as I could.

Hallo, ich heiße Helen. Ich wohne in die USA in Illinois. Ich bin siebzehn Jahre alt und ich habe Deutsch seit fünf Jahren gelernt und ich habe Französisch seit ein Jahr gelernt. [uhhh...] Ich habe Deutsch gelernt, weil meine Familie eine Deutsche Austauschschülerin gehostet habe..haben. Sie hat mich ein bissen wenige Deutsche Wörter unterrichtet. Ein Wort war ‚Luftmatratze‘ (‚air matress‘ auf English) und ich habe dieses Wort night gut gesagt ausgrsprochen, [uhh...] aber ich liebe die Sprache liebe und ich habe wollte seit dann dem Deutsch gelernt wollen lernen. Ich habe Französisch gelernt, weil ich will eine zweiten Fremdsprache gelernent will, aber meine Schule hat nur Spanisch oder Französisch hat und ich will Spanisch night lernen. Ich... Vielleicht wurde ich Spanisch in der Zukunft gelernt lernen, aber nicht jetzt. Und so... Das ist mich. Danke! Tschüss!

I did a video for the first week of the weekly speaking challenge! I know it’s super late, but I would get really nervous and had no clue what to say each time I tried. So I finally decided to write a script and this is what I ended up with. I’m still super nervous about it. 

Grabé un vídeo para la primera semana de the Weekly Speaking Challenge! Sé que está muy tarde, pero me ponía muy nervioso y no sabía que decir cada vez que trataba. Entonces, por fin, decidí escribir un guión, y eso es el resultado. Todavía me hace nervioso.

¡Hola a todos! Me llamo Josh, tengo veintidós años, y éste es mi vídeo para la primera semana del “Weekly Speaking Challenge.” Tengo un guión porque, a la hora de hablar español, nunca sé qué decir, y quiero presentarme bien para que nos conozcamos lo mejor posible. A comenzar, estoy en el último año de mis estudios en la universidad, por fin, y después de que me gradúe, pienso ir a España a enseñar inglés. La razón es que a mí me gustaría viajar, pero nunca he tenido la oportunidad. No solamente eso, sino también aprendo español porque a mí me interesa la cultura y la gente. Igualmente, es bien fácil conocer a gente que hable español donde vivo. Por ejemplo, en septiembre, asistí a un festival latino en mi ciudad, organizado por una compañera de clase, y disfruté mucho de la experiencia. Allí conocí a muchas personas y tuve la oportunidad de hacer algo bueno y, realmente, lo pasé muy bien. Desde entonces, me he centrado en mis estudios y por eso he mejorado mucho. De verdad, puedo comunicarme mucho mejor que antes.  Pues, a explicar mi historia, comencé a estudiar español el enero de este año, así llevo once meses estudiándolo. La primera herramienta que usé era Duolingo, el cual me ayudó mucho a aprender sí el vocabulario si no la gramática. Después de haber completado eso, tomé dos clases de español en el semestre de primavera, y ahora acabo de completar cinco clases de español.

Pero bueno, no quiero hablar solamente de mis estudios, pero quería establecer un trasfondo para que pudiera verse mi experiencia con el idioma. Pues, hay cinco personas en mi familia: padre, madre, hermano, hermana y yo. Este, tenemos mascotas: tres perros y dos gatos, aunque prefiero los gatos. Actualmente, no vivo con ellos sino con mi novio en una ciudad cercana a la suya. Les digo que soy bien independiente.

Pues, me apasiona la literatura, y disfruto leyendo. Yo creo que es bueno aprender algo nuevo cada día. Por eso no me molesta si alguien me dice que he hecho algún error. Lo corrijo, y está bien. Además, si sabes algunos libros interesantes en español, por favor, ¡háblenmelos!

Quiero añadir una pregunta. Mi vocabulario en español es bien limitado, entonces quiero saber: ¿qué hacen ustedes para mejorar el vocabulario que pueden usar en su día a día?

Weekly Speaking Challenge | Week 1 – “Get to Know Me” | Russian

ALRIGHT peeps I know I’m super late to the party but here’s my week 1 wsc in Russian, captioned for your sight-reading pleasure.  I know my accent is terrible and I’m sure I made hella mistakes so I would appreciate any kind of feedback.  Russian is definitely my weakest language and memorizing vocab in a different alphabet has proven to be very difficult, nothing like studying Spanish or German, so I often feel like Russian words are very “slippery” and I have to put in a lot more effort to memorize and recall them.

I’m considering uploading a video in Spanish… but we’ll see.  Anyway thanx and enjoy<3

Weekly Speaking Challenge Week 1 - French 

Well, here it is, voilà ! I’m actually rather nervous about posting this on here; I am very insecure about my French skills, ahaha...but please tell me what you think; I’d love some kind feedback:)) 

Bonjour ! Voila mon défi de parler, j’apprends le français depuis environ deux ans et demi, et c’est mon rêve d’habiter en France un jour et de parler couramment français. Maintenant, je m’avoue que j’ai honte de mon accent; j’ai un très mauvais accent, je le connais, mais si vous voulez, vous pouvez me corriger; j’aimerais ça beaucoup! Alors, je suis née aux Etats-Unis, et y’a pas beaucoup de français là, mais j’essaye de parler quand même français. J’apprends aussi le russe moi-même; je connais l’alphabet cyrillique, mais je sais pas beaucoup de mots en russe. Je joue du piano et je l’adore beaucoup, c’est un de mes choses favorites à faire, et...voilà !

*cringes* There are so many mistakes in this that I don’t even know where to begin...you see, I have much better grammar when I write in French than when I speak, and it’s hard to talk without a script...As you could probably hear, I spoke very very choppily at times...anyways, here are some mistakes I found... 

~it should be “je connais pas beaucoup de mots en russe”

~and “c’est une de mes choses favorites” 

~and my accent was so bad arghh my French “r”’s are awful and my vowels aren’t nasal enough, etc etc^^

But I really hope you enjoyed, sort of, and that I didn’t butcher the French language too much...and as I said, I wouldn’t mind some kind, helpful corrections if you’d like:) Amusez-vous bien !

Weekly speaking challenge one. I know I have an accent but I don’t know how to correct it. XD Also I don’t know how to find out what the weekly speaking challenged are every week. Can someone please link me to the source?
