Whiling Away the Summer at the Ink-Well Thatched Hut

"In his inscription, Wu Li records that he painted this handscroll one clear morning after a rainfall, sitting alone in his studio thinking of an absent friend. There is a dreamlike quality about the painting: birds, trees, bamboo, mist, and even rocks dance joyously around the hermit-scholar, who sits quietly reading in his idyllic domain. Although he was an ardent admirer of Huang Gongwang (1269–1354), Wu transformed the Yuan painter's "hemp-fiber" texture strokes into a distinctly personal style: cool pale ink textures in intricate contrasting patterns, silhouetted and suspended in space, have been applied with both an athlete's vigor and a poet's gentle cadence.

In 1681, two years after he painted this work, Wu Li was baptized as a Christian, a most uncommon thing to do for a man of his background. Ordained in Macao as a priest in 1688, he was sent in 1689 to do missionary work in Shanghai, where he died in 1718."

He just made a warm dinner and was telling his son that he's responsible for his son's failing in the exam and that next year he will be there more to help him study, Li Cu says "nope dad, i'm not gonna repeat the year" next thing he knows he's being dragged to be locked up in a closet when he seems to be either claustrophobic or cleithrophobic. After Never Ending Summer, I went searching for more Daniel Zhou Keyu content and started Sniper Butterfly, hoping for Hidden Love vibes, but... I'm 11 episodes in and I'm just not feeling the chemistry in either timeline. Instead, the age gap is very awkward, especially because she mothers and nags him so much and his personality is so submissive. The characters personalities and the extreme power imbalance only make the age gap stand out even more. It also doesn't help that the female lead physically looks much older than the male lead, which makes it even harder to not be disturbed by their romance.

I think Eurocentrism is annoying because I want to find this fucking awesome Wu Li painting but it's literally nowhere except my textbook.

Like it's annoying for the broader symbolic reasons as well, for sure, but just god damn I can find any random painting by whatever half-prominent Renaissance artist with literally no trouble, but I just can't locate one full view of this scroll on the whole internet.
