Way Up There, Swinging in Your Seat and Laughing
John Tarrant, Robert Bly, and the Hell Courtesan: 'Way Up There, Swinging in Your Seat and Laughing'
[Image: “Hell Courtesan,” painted by Kawanabe Kyosai (1831–1889). After reading the whiskey river posts which I share below, I tried mightily to find one of the paintings described by John Tarrant. I could not — at least, not before finding this one, first… which delighted me too much not to share! (For more about the painting, see the portion of this post which follows the whiskey river excerpts.]

Let go of what has passed. Let go of what may come. Let go of what is happening now. Don't try to figure anything out. Don't try to make anything happen. Relax, right now, and rest.

Seeing (and Treasuring) the Progress in the Standing Still
Andre Gide, Oliver Burkeman: 'Seeing (and Treasuring) the PROGRESS in the STANDING STILL'

But this week they’ve managed, even so, to offer us one tidbit “oddly relevant” to that…

It feels like the hardest lessons to learn are, somehow, the easiest to state. Life is so complicated by the human frameworks we've become entrenched in that finding a level of peace seems an impossibility. There is refuge in the thought that letting go of the struggles, letting go of the complexities we allow ourselves to be twisted up in, will lead to the peace we're all "struggling" for. Thank you for reading and have the most outstanding of days!
