I think you can laugh at WW3 jokes and make memes about it, as long as you understand the reality of it too. I’ve laughed with my brother about getting “drafted,” but it wasn’t in any serious manner. This is a real thing, and it’s something that honestly causes concern for me. I have a cousin overseas who is my age and is deployed there as a mechanic. He’s wanted to be in the military since he was really young, and the reality that he’s actually over there is amazing and terrifying at the same time. I have another cousin who is in the US, serving a few years in the Army. He’s waiting for his time to be up so he can finally settle down with his wife, and use his degree in math to do what he wants to do. I worry for them both, because I love them, and care about them.
I know that the war between Russia and Ukraine isn’t here in the United States, but that doesn’t make it any less real. If the US decides to make any military moves, it affects my family on both sides. I don’t think the draft will come into effect, at least not for a long time, and I don’t think the US will engage for a time either. That’s what we did in the last TWO World Wars. I think we as Americans need to not worry about it, take a “chill-pill,” and keep going with our lives. We need to stay aware of what’s going on, yes, but it shouldn’t plague our minds with worry. We need to pray for both sides in this war going on. For understanding, clarity, and grace.
