- Endangered Animal Art Week - . // Saola // . I love how the are being called Asian Unicorn 😘 Saola is discovered in 1992 and little is known about since it’s discovery. It has two long parallel horns with sharp ends. It can reach 20 inches in length and found in both male and female. . Saola is threatened by hunting, illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss. The actual size of the population is unknown. . Help share and raise awareness on the Saola ❤️ I actually never knew about this animal until this endangered week. I’m thankful for the creators for creating this Endangered Art Week and it definitely raised some awareness on them. Orangutan numbers and distribution have declined rapidly since the middle of the 20th century, due to human activities like hunting, illegal logging, mining, and conversion of forests to agriculture. . Orangutans have an extremely low reproductive rate because they have single offspring and they take a long time to reach sexual maturity. . Having Orangutans are beneficial to our environment as they help to disperse seeds and keep the forest healthy. . - Endangered Animal Art Week - . // Sumatran Elephant // . First of all, I would like to apologise for my inconsistent style of the animals 😣 but anyways, that’s not the main point. . The Sumatran Elephants are critically endangered due to deforestation and poaching. . Elephant numbers have declined at a staggering rate due to habitat loss and Human-Elephant conflicts. . Poached for their tusks, many elephants are found decapitated?!?!?! As I was researching on these elephants I saw many gory photos of headless Elephants and it really made me sososo angry. It must be sososo painful for them to bear. Imagine your head getting brutally butchered? It makes me wonder how are there such heartless human beings out there in this world. Some of them really do not deserve to be alive >:( I’m sorry I got really mad seeing those photos :( . Indonesia's environment ministry estimates there are fewer than 2,000 Sumatran elephants still in the wild. . There are more facts and articles about the Sumatran Elephants if you look them up on Google. It’s so heartbreaking to read about these critically endangered species I need to sleep away all these sadness. . Their beautiful colored and patterned shells are sold in markets and are highly valuable :( . It is really sad to see such majestic creatures on the brink of extinction because of wildlife trades and environment changes. They are also often found entangled in gillnets or captured on fishing hooks. They have to reach the surface to breathe but because they are trapped in nets/fish hooks, they are unable to surface and drown. . Sea turtles are a fundamental link to marine ecosystems and they help to maintain the health of Coral reefs. Help raise awareness about the threats they are facing. - Endangered Animal Art Week - . // Vaquita // . Vaquita is the world’s most rare marine mammal and they are on the brink of extinction. There are only as few as 30 Vaquita left 😢 . They are often trapped and drowned in gillnets used by illegal fishing operations in marine protected areas within Northern Gulf of California. . Some special features they have are large dark ring around their eyes and dark patches on its lips that form a thin line from the mouth to the pectoral fins. New born Vaquita have darker coloration as compared to the adults. They can weigh up to 120 pounds and grow up to 5ft in height. . The status of Vaquita currently is Critically Endangered 😭 . They curl up into a ball when they are under threats and they use their scales to protect themselves from predators. Their scales are actually made from keratin, the same material that makes up human fingernails and rhino horns. . They are one of the most trafficked mammals and they are in high demand for their meat and scales. Their meat is considered a delicacy and their scales are used in traditional medicines. There are still many illegal trades going on despite the protection under national and international laws 😢 . In the wild, they’re slow to reproduce and give birth to only one baby at a time. Stop eating pangolin meat and don’t buy pangolin products! .
