Two of the pieces I did for Inktober this year! The first one I did after visiting the base of the TAMAR Project (Portuguese for tartarugas marinhas, or marine turtles in English) in the city of Florianópolis, which is a brazilian non-profit organization focused on the protection of the marine turtles;
The second one was strongly inspired by Alphonse Mucha’s work. I had the pleasure of visiting the exhibition in São Paulo last weekend and I cannot put to words what it felt like. His works are amazing and being able to see them in real size was an experience out of this world ♥️

The current #ConservationBootCamp participants were lucky to witness this during this time of the year. A hawksbill sea turtle for prompt 9 of the #WildlifeWednesdayChallenge Hawksbill turtles have been around over a million years and can grow to a length of 1m. These slow growing, solitary animals can be found in tropical waters where they favour coral reefs and like to snack on poisonous sea sponges which can make up to 90% of their diet., These turtles are bioflourescent and highly toxic, but that doesn't stop the Chinese eating them as a delicacy. The Hawksbill has a beautiful and distinctive shell, for which they've been harvested since Egyptian times as the source of traditional 'tortoise shell' and in modern times are caught, stuffed and sold to tourists. These beautiful animals are now critically endangered due to hunting by humans, accidental deaths due to fishing or boats, pollution, loss of habitat and nesting sites. This drawing was created using Faber Castell PITT artist brush pens and my favourite Uni-pin fine liners.
