                          This already looks so awkward, but I                           really    can’t  find  another  piece   of                            paper so this will  do and honestly  I                           think   we’re   now  past  the…..  wow,                           I don’t even know how to put together                           a proper sentence. This is  new  and                           I must say a bit uncomfortable. So I’ll                           just   move   on   to  other  things  like                            telling you to  stay  put.  Relax. I  have                           already  put  coffee on and I’m  going                           to be back in five with  doughnuts  for                           the both of us. Just  enjoy the  softest                           mattress  you’ve   ever  been  on  and                           I’ll  be  back  in  no  time.  Okay? Okay.

They've been outing HYDRA bases for months now, and he knows the routine pretty god damn well. They get their intel, they scope it out a few days before, and then they go in. He leads them, of course, holding the shield up just in case. Sometimes they burst through the door into nothing, into a corridor, and other times they burst into the main... well, whatever they're called. Testing facility, base, it changes with each place they go to, each one the take down. But this is by far the biggest, and the worst Steve has seen. Most of it's underground; they take out the ground floor fairly quickly, careful to injure and not to kill. They work their way down lower, to the bottom floor, and only there do they find it.

The lowest floor is dusty, obviously disused, but Steve knows what it is. It's got a lot of empty cryo chambers, doors hanging open, waiting to be used, but only one is actually working. To think that they had anyone else on ice knocks him a little bit sick; he can't see, the window to the chamber covered with frost and condensation. It hasn't been open in a while, he thinks. He assumes. He sends Natasha and Sam off to have a look around, see what else they can find as he opens it up.

It's take a while of pushing buttons and using brute force before it opens, and there's a cold fog as the door opens. He waits until it clears, and his eyes widen.

"-—Peggy?"
