just pondering on the idea of how humans like patterns. We tend to adore anything that is repetitive, we prioritise it in desigining clothes, in architecture, everywhere. We have routines for eating, we have an order of things we do even though it is not bound in any rulebook or guide, and we tend to recognise things that we've already seen more than once instead of approaching something for the first time, even if it is arguably within our limits of knowledge.
So do you think the Eridians would catch on to Grace's habits and preferences? Do you think Rocky would notice Grace's occasional click-click of a pen when in thought, or the 'check the handle twice to make sure its locked' habit - maybe thrice or five times, or how some people tend to avoid cracks when they walk on surfaces - to step over and around them, even when those hold no threat?
Do you think the others would try do experiments? See how much of a certain design is needed to illicit a response from Grace? Like, one cup is nothing, two cups is a bit more interesting, but 10 cups, each perfectly lined up across 2 tables, five per table, with equal distance inbetween? Oh that would be satisfying. Do you think Rocky might even pick up on Grace's heartbeat at such a sight?
Maybe a physical reaction (gasp, faster heartbeat, holding their breath) may come out of Grace if a pattern is of grandeous scale. Maybe, an Eridian would contemplate of a plan, and Rocky would plead to Grace 'Just follow me! I have something to show you!!' and Grace would follow, because they trust Rocky and are honestly awfully curious, and then they look up, and right before them is a structure maybe the size of a three story building, maybe 10, or as high as the sky goes - and evenly placed are etchings, as if windows or perhaps just like segmented from hundreds or thousands or hundreds of thousands of pieces akin to bricks, and it all lines up perfectly, there is not a single one out of place, and then Rocky panics - because the human just froze up and their heart is racing wildly, and what to do because Grace just seems to be so damn still and yet something is clearly happening, and then Grace just smiles, tells Rocky and the Eridians thank you, and just stares at it. Because maybe it is just a blank wall, maybe it is just that simple, but something about the repetition makes the monkey brain just go beserk. Bonkers over a little pattern. Wild over something so simple as lines.
But isn't it beautiful? Do you not feel anything less than child-like wonder towards the following images? Do you think the Eridians would understand it? Do you think Grace would seek them out - compulsively or even consciously?
