it's been months since my last ask about mdzs but i actually finished it a few weeks ago & i've got sooo many feels about it, i really agree with what you said about how it's so much more than just romance & fantasy, the political and philosophical stuff she mentioned really got me thinking like the way ppl treated everyone with the last name wen, or the way ppl put so much importance on rumours, or how ppl treated wwx at different points etc, (1/3)
i enjoyed it SO much omg but i also felt like the only happy parts were the wangxian romance, like someone once said the whole story has been a tragedy that only fulfilled wangxian. The whole yunmeng jiangs will forever hurt me, I want SO badly for yunmeng shuangjie to work tgt in yunmeng; yanli deserves so much better she waited so long for zixuan to love her back & when he finally can everything is going downhill… (2/3)
ugh im always going to be sad over all the could have beens but I guess that’s what makes it so impactful & unforgettable? like 张爱玲 said in 倾城之恋, it looks like a happy ending but there’s a sort of 说不尽的仓凉, an indescribable 遗憾 or 压抑感. I think im still too deep in my feelings abt it to move on to tian guan cifu sfljfds but to think I’m going to suffer again in the audio drama, donghua, manhua & live action! how wonderful! (3/3)
now is the time when i politely say i proclaimed this to you earlier (ie i told you so) but AY i’m glad you finished and enjoyed this piece of literary art?? the sociopolitical aspect of it was outstanding, it really mirrors all ages of politicians who just go along with what the next big guy said, its such a harsh commentary of what people really are, as you said, eager to spread word without sense or credibilty. the abuse of power and how characters deal with it?? i love the unapologetic gore and the revenge’s of the characters and how they take it. wangxian romance was definitely not always happy either. there was so much longing, disappontment and sadness between the two, a lot of misunderstanding. all the characters had something you can relate to, probably the only textbook villain being wen ruohan and his son. i firmly believe that the story would not have resonated as much within its readers if the tragedy wasnt as prevalent. to me, mdzs is more of wangxian being ON the stage of a tragedy, and what saved it from being completely angst. if you want to feel a bit better, there are extras you can read!
aside from that, what did you think of the yi city arc? and wen qing is hot but they didnt have to torch her right :v how do you feel about the slow burn? wasn’t jin guangyao impeccabley good as a character??
I’m updated on the donghua, manhua and audio drama too so i’ll be here if you want to talk about it XD just dm me ;0 also tell me when you get into tian guan ci fu, i’ll definately be able to talk a heck load about it since i finished it after mdzs (i got my brother into tgcf too since it’s not very graphic and he loved it).
