What if I shared my dumb little doodles on here? They're not good, and I could then make it everyone's problem!
I send you the ask game for Xenoblade
Ooooh, thank you! A chance to gush about an old favorite of mine <3 (looking at 1, 2, and 3 for this)
favorite female character:
Oh, I'm so torn between Melia Antiqua from 1 and Eunie from 3, which is hilarious given that they're polar opposites. Melia is dignified, authoritative, the heir to an empire; Eunie is rough and snarky and comes from nothing. I thiiiink Eunie slightly edges the win though - as much as I love my girl Melia, Eunie just has SO MUCH PERSONALITY! I love every single line she says!
"You MUPPET!" "More snuffin' water. [...] I mean... feathers are a bitch to dry." "What about babies? You got any babies?" "Right, I'm punchin' him. Noah, permission to punch!"
And of course, like all the party members in 3, there's more to her than meets the eye. She's actually quite anxious deep down, hiding it behind her bravado, and her relationship with Taion is... maybe my favorite in the game? Slightly edging out Noah/Mio? They have fewer scenes, but the ones they have are just good!
favorite male character:
Noah from 3 and it's not even close. He's a rare example of a pacifist done right - he wants to stop the eternal war, but is not afraid to pick up his own weapon and knows WHY people have to do the same. He doesn't just preach - the dude has a body count because he knows if he doesn't fight, he's going to die and his friends are going to die. Hell, he's arguably the most skilled fighter in the main party. But he still tries to avoid it where he can. He's brave, kind, sensitive, and he sticks to his convictions.
Oh, and then there's everything that is revealed in Chapters 5 and 6 which makes him even MORE of a complex character. I'd argue that just the entire prison island sequence by itself was more than enough to propel him into one of my favorite characters of all time.
Oh, and he has a cool design. And a cool sword (the best of the three iconic weapons, IMO). And he plays a flute. Wins all around.
favorite book/season/etc: [game]
Toss-up between 1 and 3. While I think 3 has some amazingly high highs, I think 1 is a more consistently good story from start to end. I'd give it to 1 for the music, but 3 for the cinematics; 1 definitely had better villains but 3 had better characters overall...
help.
favorite episode: [chapter]
Am I still giving it to 3? Yes. Chapter 5 of XC3 is the best that any Xenoblade has ever been. And it definitely ranks up there with the best JRPG story moments. Everything from the City cutscenes to the prison to THAT CUTSCENE is just... yeah, it still gives me a lot of emotions.
my favorite ship:
...I'm so tempted to say Rex/Nia/Pyra/Mythra just for how FUNNY it is. But I can't lie - Noah/Mio is a favorite. And Eunie/Taion. Honestly, depends if I feel more like tragic angst or something a bit quieter and softer.
a character i'd die defending:
I honestly can't think of any that are... overhated by the fandom? Zanza, maybe - some might call him boring, but I'd argue that the best thing 2 did was flesh him out a LOT.
Also he has some of the best boss music in the series and you can fight me on this
a character i just can't sympathize with:
Jin - look, I'M SORRY I just DO NOT GET IT! His actions make no sense given his motivations! At least Malos had an excuse! Jin doesn't!
a character i grew to love:
Oh gosh, there are so many in this series. Reyn from 1 and Lanz from 3 are both muscleheads that end up showing a very serious, emotionally mature side to them. Mythra from 2 came off as aggressive and mean, but once I saw her in Torna I grew to love her as one of my favorites in 2.
...But I think it has to go to Riki from 1. He is introduced as a comic relief mascot character. And then we find out he has kids, and this is also played as a joke! Throughout the game he comes off as oblivious, almost childlike.
And then we get the beach scene between him and Dunban. Where he reveals an emotional maturity far greater than he had displayed before and has a serious, genuine conversation about what it's like having to raise children. And the theme that plays really makes it hit home. And also there's a H2H late in the game where he finds out the main character is an orphan and basically adopts him on the spot.
anti-otp:
Obvious familial ones aside? ...I'm sorry, I just don't think Shulk/Fiora has much flavor. She really didn't get enough time to shine with her own personality. They have some adorable scenes to be sure, but I think Shulk/Melia has a more interesting dynamic.
it's a very good thing melia can't meet jin bc i fear if kallian didn't brush his hair they'd look like brothers and it would give Melia an actual heart attack
