1966 saw the "new" Jaguar 420 Sports Sedan, produced until 1969.
The XK-E models, referring to Jaguar E-Type Series 1, which also featured the 4.2-liter engine from 1964 onwards, with the 1967 model year being particularly notable for the introduction of an alternator.
4.2-liter XK inline-six with 245 BHP at 5400 rpm and 282 ft. lbs. torque at 4000 rpm, featuring twin overhead-camshafts, seven main bearings, polished valve throats, and a hemi-spherical cylinder head.
Available with a fully synchromesh, four-speed close-ratio manual gearbox with overdrive or an optional Borg Warner Model 8 automatic. Four-wheel disc brakes, dual braking system, power steering, limited slip differential, adjustable steering wheel, and alternator (new for '67 E-Type).
The E-Type (XKE) was widely acclaimed, with Enzo Ferrari reportedly calling it the most beautiful car he'd ever seen upon its 1961 debut. Reviews noted its impressive performance for the era, including a 0-60 mph time of around seven seconds and a 150-mph top speed for the Series I. Much of the details above were quite advanced even by today’s standards.
