SPOILERS for Xmen 97 because I'm connecting some dots and making some theories. :)
Angel is back and he's obsessed with one thing, hunting and killing Apocalypse.
So I'm going to focus on a few things, Remy (of course) and Angel's tranformation. When they get curbstomped by Pocky, tried to comfort Angel who Gambit refers to as "le ange du morte" (forgive the spelling) which he helpfully translates as Angel of Death. Remy says Angel is this "now and forever" and I really hope he doesn't still hold onto that idea. However, Rogue says that when she touched Angel she felt Warren deep down and I'm hoping SHE does still hold on to this.
We know Warren's tranformation was, in a way, willingly done but Remy's was not- he was a corpse. I also wonder if the process was different or if Warren's natural distain for his wings made him more susceptible to the hate OR perhape he blames himself for funding it all in the first place.
Anyway back to the episode where Rogue is doting on Angel and Remy is...not happy. Angel tells Rogue that she of all people should understand him (what with her having part of him in her mind and all). The team comes in, saying they know where Pocky is and Angel flies off (kindly not directly breaking a window but pulling it out and tossing it aside- breaking it). Rogue tries to follow and Remy stops her with "Revenge make him reckless, he pull you down with him." He's clearly afraid she'll be hurt.
Rogue doesn't listen and flies off after Angel and Remy....decided to follow to make sure she doesn't get hurt. She's pretty invulnerable but he's still very worried for her.
"Pledge yourself to me heart and soul." Ok Warren stop being a creep. Like his obession here, he wants her as a companion but mostly a knight by his side and yet the man is being a massive creep about it.
Angel attacks Pocky near a peer and Remy stops Rogue telling her there are people below who might get hurt. Remember, while Remy has no issues hurting people attacking him, he doesn't want to endanger innocent people (and he claims not to be a hero). Angel, we know is obssessed and reckless and we see in 97 he's not afraid of just killing people (well War but still). And Rogue...she disregards Remy's warning and attacks- this is in line with her own obsession in 97 after the loss of our dear Cajun.
More raving from Angel blah blah. Oh look we are joining the others who met Ship, Pocky's vessel who they were trying to use to trap the demon. It doesn't work but Angel attacks the ship nothing happens but Pocky frees himself blah blah blah. Pocky set a trap for Angel using Angel's own obsession against him.
"I am the rocks of the eternal shore, crash against me and be broken" is just cold line. No notes.
Anyway fight and Remy gets to say his thing "The name is Gambit. Remember it." I guess he does. Now this isn't the first time someone has said this to Pocky. The first time was Cable during the "Time Fugatives" two parter. This is the 2nd time Remy has said this line- the first was during a fight with the servants of Sinister.
More fighting and Remy catches Rogue, how sweet cause she usually catches him. They catch each other quite a bit actually. :)
Ship helps trap Pocky and shoot him into space, meanwhile Remy, despite everything tries to save Angel. Ship helps but is dying. Poor Ship. RIP :(
Scott tells off Angel for his bullshit and Rogue doesn't follow when Angel flies off as he vows to kill Pocky or die trying. Beast has lost a new friend and Rogue is filled with guilt.
So we know from s2 ep2 that Angel's vendetta against the "Big Man" is still very alive. This raises a question- what will the aftermath of Remy being Death be? Will he be filled with rage as Angel was? Will it be guilt? Or perhaps something else? Will this get in the way of his relationship with Rogue that we know will be coming?
I don't think Remy will have Angel's hatred, his anger. Remy has not been seen as that guy. He has his envy and jealous streaks, sure, but I don't see him turning his guilt and post transformation pain outward. No, Remy has always held it in and boiled in his pain. He will need to be forced to face himself to grow, to heal.
the way I've literally had to start rereading the Getting Warmer fic to prepare myself for apocalypse shenanigans this season. and also. the romy. always the romy. god i love this fic
The color came out darker than I expected, but I do really like it. Also I had to remake two different keychains five times cause they kept on warping, so I’m not doing this again for a while.
