Me to Lindsay Lohan when she does a moderately entertaining Netflix Christmas movie that I will absolutely watch.
Mean Girls gets you so much good will.
But Lindsay got her life together.
It just took 10 years. That’s all.
Everybody wants pretty girls they say
Nobody knows pretty girls make graves
CHAT.
In the spirit of Christmas 2022, a herd of Krampus emerge from the forest to kidnap and eat or drown misbehaving children.
Okay.. so I’m mostly joking... but this picture makes me dark little heart happy and giggly.

Happy Holidays from Charley!
Charley poses for his holiday portrait on December 13, 2006. This was Charley’s second Christmas and his first with a studio portrait. I took this picture of him and he was a very patient and cooperative model. He would stay still and didn’t mind my moving him for the best pose. He enjoyed the experience and the interaction of it. This was one of many studio portraits I took of him over the years. Upper West Side, Manhattan, NYC

“You’re crazy,” Ned scoffed.
Peter just shook his head and continued to crane his neck around the lunchroom. He knew you would be arriving to the table any minute now. It was the last day of the Secret Santa exchange, so Peter made sure to get there early and put his last gift at your place well before you had any chance of catching him.
Ned had done the same with his gift at Peter’s insistence. Just in case you got there before anyone else, this way you still wouldn’t be positive which of them was your Santa until you read the card.
“I’m telling you, this is going to blow up in your face dude. As your best friend, I don’t wanna see that happen.”
“Shut up Ned, my idea’s better than socks.”
Ned laughed. “Touché.” He busied himself with eating his lunch sandwich. “They’re pretty dope socks though.”
At the mall with Ned, Peter had a stroke of inspiration when he went to use the gift card from his Secret Santa. After feeling like he had absolutely no clue what to get, he had decided two things. The first was that he wanted to find a way to ask you out without being obvious about it. The second was the stroke of inspiration. It came when Ned was browsing a rack of crazy themed socks and Peter spied a pair covered in teacups. He had something better in mind than getting the socks though.
Peter looked up again and almost jumped out of his skin. You had just reached the table and were inspecting the quaint white box. Peter winced slightly when you shook it lightly to hear whatever was inside. Something hard audibly bounced between the cardboard sides.
“Hey, Y/N,” Peter said as casually as he could.
You looked up and smiled. “Hi.” Then you blushed and fished around in your backpack for a moment. You produced a small gift bag with tissue paper sticking out of it. You shoved it across the table at Peter, to his shock.
“Sorry I’m no good at gift wrapping,” you laughed nervously. “Or thinking of creative gifts. I hope you’re able to find something okay with the gift card.” You hooked a loose chunk of hair behind your ear and sat in your usual spot, looking at Peter expectantly.
Peter remembered how to speak and thanked you profusely for the Barnes and Noble card, realizing suddenly that you both had similar interests in reality and not just in his imagination as he had begun to fear.
Peter plucked the tissue from the top and threw it aside. Inside the bag he found a set of glossy, stiff bookmarks with photos of various New York sites. Peter examined the image of the skyline, already deciding it was his favorite.
“These are really neat! Thanks!” he gushed as he pulled a personalized travel mug out last.
“I wasn’t sure if you liked coffee or tea more--or even if you like either... and I wasn’t sure what book to get so I went with a gift card... and you’re from New York so...” you weren’t sure why you felt the need to justify all these little choices.
Peter smiled. “It’s perfect, thanks! Um, that one is from me.”
You opened the lid of the box as others began to fill the table and exchange gifts. You and Peter both became extremely aware of all the sets of eyes on you, however.
Inside was a small but slightly heavy thing wrapped in the same tissue paper the cashier had used at the store. You peeled off the paper to reveal a small yellow and white teacup. There was a little Christmas card in the box still. You opened it and out fell a Starbucks gift card. Peter had written a note in the regular card wishing you a happy holiday and expressing a hope to have more classes with you next semester.
“Wow, Peter!” you said.
“I thought of Alice in Wonderland...” now Peter was justifying his logic.
“I know! It’s amazing! This is so cute!” You turned the cup around in your hands.
Peter swallowed hard. Here came the part he was most nervous and excited for.
“I was thinking...” he began. “I mean, I do like coffee or tea, and I wasn’t sure which you like but I know Starbucks has both--I mean, if you ever wanted to hang out over break...” he struggled to get the words out but you knew exactly what he was asking.
“That’s such a good idea! I’ll take you to Starbucks--my treat,” you waved the gift card around.
Peter smiled to himself. Ned gazed on in awe along with the rest of the lunch table. Peter felt in awe of himself too. Had things really gone that smoothly?
The bell rang.
Already? Peter gathered his uneaten lunch, reluctant to part from the table yet. Everyone else scattered, thanking their Santas and making plans for winter break as they headed to their next classes.
You hung back with Peter and walked with him to his next class.
“I’m free the Saturday before Christmas,” you said first.
“Okay,” Peter said eagerly.
“Okay,” you said with a smile. You gave Peter your number before heading to your own class, grinning to yourself with the same grin glued to Peter’s face. It was almost unbelievable how well things had worked out, but then again, maybe that was just part of the magical spirit of the holiday season.
