If you haven't read All-New X-Men #29 yet, then you should probably stop reading this question right now… Anyways, it appears that future Xorn/Jean Grey never really existed at all and was just a mental construct of "baby Xavier". That was totally unexpected for me, but what'd you think of the reveal? I actually like the idea, since I was never really a fan of future Jean Grey from Battle of the Atom to begin with.
My working idea is that during BotA, Xorna was Jean Grey. That incursion altered Jean and the X-Men’s future, creating a ripple effect that led to her no longer being Xorna by the time we catch up with the Brotherhood again in the future.
Time as a living organism has Xavier create the Xorna puppet in order to keep as many other events stable as possible. I would not be surprised if there were subtle differences every time we see the Brotherhood again, for the first time.
But that could be wrong. Last night Bendis gave this response to my Mcfly’d comment
or it hasn’t!!
nmrosario replied to your post “What up, man. So I saw a page Bendis posted from All New X-Men, I haven't read the book in a looong time but Scott said Jean gained a new power? What's that all about?”
I wonder if we can really put any stock in anything that the future Xorn/Jean Grey said during Battle of the Atom? Especially since it appears that young Xavier was mentally puppeteering her the entire time. Hopefully that will all be cleared up soon
I think there were some genuine moments from her. I believe her powers had evolved to a point she needed the helmet to control them, and stay coherent. I believe the sense of pain she relayed to Jean about an incident in the future was genuine.
I am not sure the puppet-erring was going on at the time. Bendis has stated he has been allowed to change some of the back story now that Aaron, and Lowe are off the franchise. The decision to leave a lot of their history vague is going to help him in the end, now that he is changing details so they are more to his liking.
Like the fact that it would appear Raze & Xavier were originally X-Men. Luckily, it is a single panel in the scene, and can be written off in the grand scheme of things.
