Anime Club
Attention all teen fans of anime! We’re starting a NEW Anime Club that meets every second Saturday of the month. Our first meeting is Saturday September 9 at 1pm in the RPL Community Room. All fans ages 13-18 are invited. We plan on having anime viewings, sharing fanfiction and fan art, cosplay, food, games, and more! Whether you’re a true otaku or a casual fan, you’re invited! Those who come may have the chance to help us choose what anime we’ll watch and what other kind of fun events we will have going forward, so please join us!
September 9 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm in RPL Community Room
Future meeting dates: October 14 November 11 December 9 January 13
Programming for the teen demographic can be a complicated process, so why not take to Pinterest to look for ideas like this one? For additional programming suggestions, check out my Pinterest board here!
Event Highlight:
Teen 3D Printing with NWA3D
You can “Build a Better World,” digitally this summer, with NWA3D during the Teen Thursday Night program on July 27th at 6pm in the Friends of the Rogers Public Library Community Room. They will have computers to design on, 3D pens to draw with, and 3D printers to print whatever you want. All the materials will be provided; no prior experience with 3D printing is a required.
NWA 3D is an educational 3D company that has demonstrated 3D printing at several schools in northwest Arkansas, and has been here for library programs in the past, including our Geek events. Certified teachers will be on hand to help out any students that need it. Stop by and create something awesome!
This event is for ages 13-18, no registration is required.

Find and save recipes, parenting hacks, style inspiration and other ideas to try.
Face Swap with book covers? Painting library bookends to look like your favorite book covers? Passive programs? March Madness, book edition? All of these things directly relate to YA Programming and can be used to bring innovative programs to youth in the library to break from the mold of old programming.
Because who wouldn’t go to a pizza eating contest?
April 22nd, 5pm: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Come see the latest in the Hunger Games movies, and more importantly, grab some pizza while you're here.
April 26th, 3pm: Teen Advisory Group
This will be the first meeting of the North Kingstown teen advisory group, which means you! Any teens (grades 6-12) who want to let us know what you want from the library, this is a great place to start. Here you can let us know what kind of books you're interested in, what kind of programming you want (movies? talks? authors? book clubs?) and anything else that you want to voice about the library. We want to hear from you!
Plus, there will be snacks. Always snacks.
Tumblarians, HALP!
As of today, I am super officially working on YA programming for my library. So far, my experience has included YA book groups, YA passive programming, and children’s programming. Actual YA active programming? Not so much, yet. Of course, I have a portfolio of ideas to start with, but I want to keep up with research for the future.
I HAVE MANY QUESTIONS FOR YOU!
In relation to YA programming:
Who should I be following on tumblr?
Which non-tumblr blogs should I put on my RSS feed?
What are some of your favorite YA programming ideas? Have you had some great successes? Is there something you’ve been meaning to try?
Our kids are really into crafts, including maker-lite stuff. For example, last week they made holiday cards with LEDs. That said, we don’t have an equipped maker space.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Love, Kat
