A writer was making small talk during the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ (SCBWI) annual conference when she says the man she was chatting with, a successful children’s book

I spent a looooong time reading through the comments on this article. The resulting rage/nausea spiral is still ongoing. I know that children’s publishing isn’t now nor has ever been immune to abuse, so I’m not surprised exactly, but I am sure as hell ANGRY–on behalf of the survivors, and at the perpetrators. I’m not really sure what we as librarians can do to help change the culture, though some commenters raise some good points about how we valorize authors–something I’m certainly guilty of, and will have to work on.

Also today: A group of YA authors are selling NFTs to readers for their next series to create some sort of “collaborative” community. But there’s no guarantee that you’d be picked and if rights are sold, that you’d get any sort of royalties for the character/NFT you created. To me it sounds like you’re paying to submit fanfiction to a new series that we know nothing about. Sounds like a scam!!!!!!
