it’s almost the new year, and you and yamaguchi have never been closer. literally. he recently bought the two of you a snuggly apartment in the midst of the city. the most enticing thing about this apartment? the balcony. for the first few days of living in your cozy new home, you and yamaguchi have spent the evenings cuddling together on your new balcony, simply admiring the view

oh, how the two of you had always dreamed of having a home as beautiful as this one. the memories of the two of you fantasizing together about your future dream home under the covers, just before bed always seem to replay when you two unite together on the balcony

new year’s plans this year were uncertain, as the two of you were just so busy moving in and getting everything ready that you forgot to make any significant plans! you mutually decide to stay home together, and watch the fireworks from the view

while fireworks and champagne are the most prominent things on your mind for tonight, yamaguchi’s thoughts are riddled with a certain velvet box that’s been hiding in the left shelf in your new joint closet, just waiting to be opened to reveal the sapphire ring inside.

he’s used all his savings on this ring, but why, oh why can’t he just propose to you? maybe it’s the way your eyes spark a sense of security within him, the way you smile just intoxicates him with your beauty, the way- okay, this is the problem! every time he’s about to propose, your beauty just distracts him

11:57 PM, the excitement from the build up to the fireworks is killing you! while the excitement to kneel down to you is killing yamaguchi

“tadashi! come on, it’s almost time!” you announce, rushing out to the balcony, embracing the cold breeze that rushes over you

“coming! just give me a second sweetheart!” he shouts from the closet, rummaging through the left shelf of the closet until his hand finally brushes off the soft velvet of the box. a wave of excitement rushes through him as his hand grips around the tiny box

11:59 PM, your hand shakily pours two glasses of champagne as the chatter in the air begins to develop

“tadashi, baby your gonna miss it! quick!” you squeal as you turn around to see yamaguchi sprinting to the balcony from your room

“is the count down about to begin?” tadashi pants as his hands slowly emerges into his pocket

“12 seconds” your practically jittering with excitement 

10 ; you slowly begin to swallow down your champagne

9 ; tadashi suddenly lets go of your hand

8 ; your grip on the balcony railing tightens

7 ; you can hear tadashi’s voice chanting slightly below you now

6 ; the chants from the city below and around excite you even more

5 ; you can hear the click of something open

4 ; your prepared to scream ‘happy new year’ any moment now

3 ; oh god it’s close

2 ; it’s coming

1 ; it’s here

“happy new year!” you scream, immediately turning to tadashi to kiss him, but he’s not at your eye level?

you look down in a split second, to see his trembling hand holding out a sapphire ring, the crystal reflecting the thousands of fireworks that explode around you. his face is tear stained and shiny, trying to withhold the immense amount of emotions he’s been holding

“y/n, i.. i” his voice is already cracking, as he chuckles, “i have loved you ever since i laid eyes on you. not only do i want to spend this new year with you, but i want to spend the rest of my life with you. will you marry me, y/n?”

his face was a mixture of emotions. overwhelming love taking over his body and soul, just waiting for an answer from you.

“of.. of course tadashi” your sobbing happy tears with him now, as he gleefully jumps up to finally savor that sweet kiss he’s been desiring since the beginning of the night

“i love you” he mutters, pulling away from the passionate kiss for a second waiting for a reply from you. his thumb idly rests on your bottom lip as his forehead remains attached to yours

“i love you too tadashi, so fucking much” you mutter, crying even more as the fireworks grow even more intense in the background. you and tadashi were supposed to be the background to the main attraction, the fireworks. but in this moment, in this exact moment, you two are the main attraction. everything else in just in the background. nothing else matters right now except you and tadashi.
