Disastrous double date incoming

in honor of pride month (i know I'm late to announcing this... a day late.. BUT WHATEVER) I have decided to take it into my own hands to take this opportunity and rant about my favorite rarepairs :) as this goes on, my rarepairs will just get rarer and rarer ❤️

first: tsukiyamakagehina. yes. all four of them. it is the year 2025 we are NOT going to freak out about poly people

I just KNOW none of them feel left out. sure, most of the time it's just duos doing whatever, whether it's Tsukishima and Kageyama cuddling, Hinata and Yamaguchi playing a board game, Kageyama and Yamaguchi talking softly about their day, sneaking in occasional kisses, Tsukishima teasing Hinata lovingly, Hinata and Kageyama making everything a competition, or Tsukishima and Yamaguchi spending time ranting about their favorite things, neither one of them is left alone.

They'll have nights where they're never split into duos, always spending time together. they'll even cuddle together, all four of them squeezed onto Tsukishima's bed, because they had decided long ago that with Tsukishima's cooler older brother, and his awesome mom, his house was definitely the house for sleepovers and hangouts.

Yes, it does get a bit complicated coming out to anyone, especially their team, but they patiently describe it using everyone's words. Tsukishima explains it textbook style, explaining what polyamory is, yet refusing to explain or talk about how he realized he loved all three of them.

Yamaguchi goes a bit more into detail based on feelings, talking about how he felt excited and happy near these people, how they made his day and never failed to make him smile.

Kageyama just shrugs. "I like them. I dunno what made me like them I just.. do" he's.. not the best with words.

and Hinata.. Hinata is just Hinata. He starts ranting excitedly, talking about how awesome his three boyfriends are and describing his feelings with onomatopoeia. as usual..

but in the end, they're definitely a happy couple :)

I don't like kiyoyachi, mainly bc the age/maturity difference, but I love the thought of yachi totally having a crush on kiyoko. Like, having a crush on an upperclassmen is sooo real, I've definitely had my fair share yk, but I think it definitely would've been an eye-opening experience for yachi.

I think it would've been a bit like the movie, But I'm a Cheerleader, in the sense that yachi had never noticed that she thought about girls differently than her friends did, and that choosing guys to have a crush on was NOT normal. She was definitely in denial. "Oh no, I'm not a lesbian, I just haven't met the right guy yet!" And thinking about what other girls were wearing, "Wow, she looks so good in that top!! She's so beautiful!! 😖😖" Like, mhm, that's it!! You just haven't met the right guy yet,, totally!! And then meeting kiyoko and totally gay panicking.

When she starts to hang out with the first years a little more, yamaguchi asks her when she realized she was a lesbian, and yachi is just, ???? Bc she thinks she's straight. And then Yama apologizes profusely for assuming, he just noticed her behavior towards kiyoko and assumed she had a crush on her. " Well, she's incredibly beautiful, I mean, like, yeah, I get really nervous and sweaty, and all that when I'm around her, but I get like that with everyone! It's just an anxiety thing. She's just older than me, and wayyy more beautiful and talented too, oh and wayyy smarter!! Tanaka and Nishinoya are right, Kiyoko really is like a goddess!!" And she just kinda rants about kiyoko whereas everybody is just staring like ...😯😯 bc they can tell she's deep in denial,,

kageyama, as blunt as ever, goes, "Well, it sounds like you're a lesbian. That sounds like a crush. I've only known you for like a month, and even I can tell you're in love with her." And Yama, "yeah,,, I mean, there's nothing wrong with being a lesbian!!! I mean, we're all queer here, too!! Tsukki and kageyama are gay, and hinata is bisexual, I think, and idrk what I am,, but I like guys!!"

But plot twist!! Kageyama is also deep in denial!!

"What?? Well, yeah, there's nothing wrong with yachi being a lesbian or with you guys being gay or whatever, but I'm not,,, I'm not gay??? Where'd you get that from???" And yachi just kinda stares at her food, connecting the dots that she is, in fact, a lesbian, and Tsukishima and hinata are holding back laughter before they start cackling, bc kageyama?? Straight??? And yamaguchi starts panicking for assuming again.

Thinking Yamayama (Yamakage? I prefer yamayama) thoughts.

I think during their second year, they were definitely hardcore crushing on each other. Everyone knew. Hinata and Tsukishima both knew and grew tired of it FAST. Even Tadashi and Kageyama themselves knew. They were scared to talk about it though, scared to ruin anything or to disrupt the dynamic of the team or their own friendship.

Even still, they made a habit of spending every second together. They would spend lunch together, they would walk home together, they would study together (more like Tadashi would study and Kageyama would TRY to study), and they even ended up hanging out on the weekends.

Tsukishima and Hinata definitely teased them all the way through second year. Not subtly, in front of everyone. The new first years were confused on whether or not they were actually dating, but they were too scared to ask. Tanaka and Noya (and even eventually Ennoshita and the other third years) started to tease them too.

On Valentine's day during their second year, Kageyama found chocolate laid on top of his bag after practice. He didn't say anything. Just took it home and ate every last bite of it. The next day at practice, he stuck by Tadashi's side and helped him with his serves. On white day, Tadashi found some chocolate on top of his bag after practice. He didn't say anything. Just smiled and looked at Kageyama with a smile that could melt a heart.

In their third year, they were left alone in the clubroom. With Tadashi now being the captain, he stayed later in order to make sure everyone left so he could lock up the gym and the clubroom. Hinata had already left, but of course Kageyama stayed so he could walk him home.

"You really don't have to stay, Kageyama." Tadashi told him.

"Of course I do."

It didn't take long for Tadashi to finally breakdown and kiss him. It wasn't much, quick and Tadashi's not even sure why he did it. He knows it's not something that will ever happen. When he pulls away and tries to apologize, Kageyama tells him he doesn't have to. He kisses him again. It was awkward, Kageyama hadn't kissed many people before. And he held Tadashi by his shoulders. Tadashi laughed at him.

Afterward, they talked. They both knew what they wanted, it's their third year and they might not see each other after they graduate if they don't do something about this now. Kageyama is insistent that they should ask coach Ukai for his blessing. Tadashi thinks it's a little silly, but he doesn't mind indulging Kageyama.

The next day, before school, they meet at Sakunoshita. They sit down with Ukai and tell him everything. They ask him if he thinks it's alright for them to be together.

He laughs at them. He tells them that as long as they don't get distracted, and they can still play well, he won't say anything about it. They thank him and leave. They walk to school. When they're about there, Kageyama asks if this means they're dating now. Tadashi laughs and tells him of course it does.

Tsukishima and Hinata are relieved that they no longer have to deal with them pining for each other in the most annoying ways possible.

Honestly, contrary to popular opinion, I don't mind rare pairs. And when I say I don't mind, I mean I can really get to enjoy them. For example, I can't tell you how many pairs with Yamaguchi I've read in the past years. Like, I can't count. Yamayachi? So cute and so wholesome. Yamayama? Kageyama having a crush on Tadashi is just such a cute idea, and there are several dope fics about them. Kuroyama (don't ask, I was myself surprised but there are a couple of good fics about them)? It can be so freaking funny. Osayama? Osamu literally told Yamaguchi he would make onigiri for him one day, and not only he did, but there was a panel of I think Yamaguchi helping him in the kitchen? THAT IS SO CUTE.

The same goes for Tsukki, to an extent. I don't usually engage in fanfiction or fanart that has any Tsukki pairs besides tskym, mostly because my head (which is hard af) can't see it most of the time. BUT, I can see it - in some way. Like, Tsukikage? It would be so funny that after all this time bickering and picking on each other (tho most of that was Tsukishima so) they'd like each other. Tsukihina? That is so funny and cute at the same time. Overall, most of my opinions on Tsukki rarepairs are "Can't see it but this is so funny actually, like I would read things about them." And the art is so cute!

However...nothing kills me more than when I read a fic where tskym is entirely platonic...but only for one part. Like?!?!?!?!

Every time I encounter things like Yamaguchi having unrequited love or Tsukki being the one who suffers through that breaks my heart, and I'm like "NOOOOOOOOOVDUOSDOFJOJFSFJ"

And this really goes for any fic, honestly. I usually am so sad whenever I read something with love triangles because even if the pair I like is endgame, I feel so sad for the other one who was left.
