First time snow day or some other first experience for mianmian/yanli
Okay...I kind of picked bits of this ask, first snow day of the season is all I managed XD and somehow it's modern AU...which I never write but oh well I'm just gonna post it before I think too much about it
Pairing: Mianmian/Jiang Yanli Content: Modern AU, Snow day-ish

Soup Weather
“How long have you been up?” Mianmian asked, tugging the blankets higher up around her chin and cursing whatever vehicle was honking its horn outside.
The air was biting outside the covers, but she could hear that the heat was on, so it wouldn’t be too long until it was safe to venture out.
She thought it was the height of insanity, the way Yanli would get up so early on the weekends when she didn’t have to, but she had to admit she appreciated the heat being put on so early while they kept forgetting to get a timer installed.
“Looks like the new neighbours are finally moving in,” Yanli answered, leaning against the sill with her face almost pressed against the glass. “They drove the moving truck right over their garden bed. Why would they do that? They must have seen it.”
“Great first impression, waking up the neighbourhood with that horn,” Mianmian groaned, stretching under the covers and inhaling deeply.
After a moment she frowned and sniffed again.
“Is that soup? Are you cooking soup before,” she glanced at the clock, “nine in the morning on a Saturday?”
Yanli only hummed, her attention still drawn by nothing more interesting than movers, presumably.
Mianmian groaned again. “You and your bloody soup. I suppose we can expect your brothers to drop by soon then?”
How the two of them always knew when Yanli made soup was beyond her, but Yanli swore she didn’t call them, that it had to be a coincidence they always dropped by just as she was finishing a pot.
There went her plans for a peaceful weekend. Nothing was ever peaceful if Wei Wuxian was around.
“It’s snowing, good weather for it,” Yanli said absently.
“It’s what?”
Mianmian threw back the covers and stumbled over to the window. She barely noticed the truck across the street, fixating instead on the thick white blanket covering their front garden and the flurry of white in the air.
“Horrible day to be moving in,” Yanli said, shifting to sling an arm low around her hip and lean against her. “Should we offer to help?”
“You can if you want to,” Mianmian snorted. She wriggled out of her loose grip and rushed to find some warm clothes to put on. “I’m going out to play in the snow.”
It was late in the season for the first snow day, but she wasn’t about to waste it helping strangers move into their house after they’d woken her up. And it would be a bonus that she’d be ready for when Wei Wuxian inevitably showed up for soup. She still owed him several snowballs to the face from last winter.
Yanli sighed and wandered off towards the kitchen. “Perfect day for soup then.”
Yanli/mianmian cloud recesses era. I can't really think of a prompt beyond one of them having an 'oh no, she's cute' moment
(Not sure it’s really a ‘oh no, she’s cute!’ moment so much as a soft ‘oh, I wish I’d paid more attention to her sooner’ moment XD)

“I got one! I got one!”
Jiang Yanli watched with wide eyes as Luo Qingyang, skirts rolled up and tucked at her hips, sleeves rolled up and tied around her upper arms, lifted a fish above her head with a delighted smile.
“Ah! Mianmian, you lied, you have done this before!” A-Xian laughed, wading over to look at her catch. “You did better than Nie Huaisang when he tried!”
“Who said you could call me that?” Luo Qingyang muttered, turning and beginning to wade towards the bank of the river. “I told you I haven’t! But I knew it couldn’t be that hard!”
A-Xian laughed again and looked as if he was about to push her when he looked up by chance and saw Jiang Yanli standing there. At once, the familiar look of mischief melted away into a blindingly bright smile.
“Shijie!” he cried out, waving at her.
Luo Qingyang looked up and gasped. “Lady Jiang!”
She looked between Jiang Yanli, the fish in her hands, and the indecent state of her clothes two times before her expression became panicked and the fish began to struggle anew in her grip.
While she fumbled for it, she shrieked and slipped, falling into the water, and A-Xian rushed to help her back up, laughing the whole time.
Jiang Yanli lifted her hand to cover her own laugh.
When Luo Qingyang re-emerged from the water, she was completely drenched, and looking miserable, but not so miserable that she didn’t yank her arm from A-Xian’s grip and declare herself able to walk herself to the bank.
Even dripping wet, she bowed respectfully to Jiang Yanli and tried to adjust her sodden clothes to make herself more presentable.
Jiang Yanli had to cover another smile. She hadn’t paid much attention before to this Luo Qingyang that was always by Jin Zixuan’s side, and now found herself regretting it. She couldn’t help but find her behaviour endearing. She didn’t know many women outside of Lotus Pier who would roll up their robes and wade through a river without dire reason, and even less who would join A-Xian in his mischief instead of merely cheering him on.
“I...I was just...”
Pink began to stain Luo Qingyang’s face as she failed to find an explanation for her behaviour.
“Ah, she caught me sneaking back here to catch fish,” A-Xian said, patting his own chest. “I insisted she try it for herself before passing judgment, and she proved herself very skilled.”
Jiang Yanli smiled indulgently at him, knowing full well that between those words lay a much longer story, one that reflected poorly on him and involved much teasing and goading. He did have a knack for shaming people into his schemes by challenging their prowess.
The darkening shade of Luo Qingyang’s flush confirmed it.
Jiang Yanli carefully moved closer over the rocks of the riverbank, and reached out to touch Luo Qingyan’s sodden sleeve.
“Come,” she said, turning and gesturing back towards the guest quarters, “you should change into something dry quickly so you don’t fall ill.”
An expression of panic crossed Luo Qingyang’s features.
“Aaaah, don’t worry, Mianmian,” A-Xian said, moving over and gently leaning against Jiang Yanli. “Shijie is well versed at sneaking people inside without being seen.”
“A-Xian,” Jiang Yanli admonished, some heat rising to her own cheeks from the, not entirely inaccurate, implication. She took Luo Qingyang’s arm in a gentle grip, and began urging her along before A-Xian could say anything else indelicate.
Luo Qingyang made some mutterings about propriety, but let Jiang Yanli pull her along easily enough after the reassurance that she wouldn’t let anyone see her in such a state.
When they were further away, Jiang Yanli chanced a look back, but only found A-Xian grinning after her, followed swiftly by an encouraging look so blatant she’d have to talk to him about it later.
For the WIP game: TKRB - love
LOL fail Liz, this one is in a MDZS WIP, no TKRB drabble/heacanon for you XD
I didn’t consider whether I should name the wips or post them without context, so this is from a Mianmian/Yanli wip =)
I’ll bold the word within the snippet =)

“But why did you leave?” she asked.
Mianmian sighed. “For the same reason you called off your engagement, I imagine,” she said. “The way they have been treating all this business with Wei Wuxian...it has shown them for what they are, and I do not want to be a part of it. I don’t agree with what he has done, but I don’t believe their version of events either.”
Jiang Yanli put down the cup so she wouldn’t spill the tea with her shaking hands. She folded them in her lap instead. Her own motivations would be obvious to anyone who knew her, but she hadn’t thought anyone else would share them.
Jin Zixuan had proven himself a changed man, and one she might one day grow to truly love, but his deference to his father’s will in such matters was more than Jiang Yanli could bear. She could not marry a man who would condemn her brother. She could only feel grateful that she had lost her naive infatuation some time ago. The decision had been easier to make when there was only the potential for future love at stake, and not any deep feelings that would need to be severed.
In truth, she had mourned the loss of her growing friendship with Mianmian more than her betrothal to Jin Zixuan.

Send me an ask with one word, any word. If any of my unpublished wips have that word in them, I’ll post a sentence or snippet containing that word, and if not, I’ll try and write a wee drabble or headcanon containing it (and you can specify fandom/ship for that possibility) =)
