Morning! Today is my last day of posting for @tjejland, I'll bring you up-to-date to my current work. This year I'm completing the 'Forest' project by re-visiting the trees that I photographed between 2011-2014, and by stepping back and observing how the trees and cities have or have not grown together. Afternoon! These two images are also from the early stage of Forest project, both were taken in the Chinese city Chongqing in 2011. The city wanted to be a 'forest city'. But they decided to buy mature trees instead of growing young trees to make their forest. These images won the 1st Prize of Syngenta Photography Award this year. Today Tjejland is going to China, following Yan Wang Preston's four-year project documenting the 6,211km Yangtze River. Using a precise schedule of 100km intervals and a large-format film camera, Preston created a visual narration of the hierarchies of urban and rural, central China and the borderlands, iconic and vernacular landscapes. "As a myth, Yangtze the Mother River naturalises China’s ideology of modernisation while idealising China’s national identity.... On an artistic level, the project is an exhaustive exploration towards issues around myths, mapping and landscape photography.... On a personal level, ‘Mother River’ is an epic pilgrimage paid to the Yangtze by one of its daughters."
