Like, one of the reasons New Vegas is just the superior "modern" Fallout is because it doesn't pretend actual modern bigotries somehow died out after the bombs. Homophobia is not a huge theme of NV but it is touched upon several times. Many of the characters you meet detail instances of homophobic bigotry, even the Legion is suffused in it. Fallout 3/4 doesn't even know how to talk about slavery, they had to rip off Bladerunner for their shitty allegory

I mean, let's face it: they call it "egg culture" because of its proximity to the phrase Rape Culture; which is how it's treated. You can say the most obvious, trans in denial shit and you will still have LEGIONS of folks (trans included) swarming and leveling accusations of grooming vis a vi "egg jokes." They can be quote-unquote woke as hell and they *still* fully believe in transgender grooming.

God Forbid our mighty Titans of Masculinity are teased don't you know that'll turn them TRANS? The worst possible outcome of these lame jokes??

Fallout 76 (on launch at least) had some really good worldbuilding. The whole Appalachia area has some of the most considered lore writing from a Bethesda released Fallout game. Arguably a far more political game than the last two mainline Bethesda Fallouts, delving into Appalachia's history of labor struggles and worker exploitation. It also introduced (imo) the best modern Fallout mutant: the Mole Miner. They're equal parts terrifying, pitiable and funny with a deep connection to the Area's past.

Just listen to their garbled barks and read what they're actually saying behind those melted breathing apparatuses.

I don't have high hopes for 76 but the potential*is* real and it *is* present.
