Yashman as Jurdan

My biggest hear me out : Yash as Jude is the hill I will die on. The mortal in the world of immortals.

The drive that Jude has to make her own place in a world so unfamiliar and unfair, we have seen this film before.

So much struggle and not enough acknowledgement, she wasn't strong or skilled from the beginning, she had to learn everything the hard way. The character development, the story arc, chef's kiss.

Some dialogues of Jude that I feel are just so Yash coded :

"If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse."

"If you hurt me, I wouldn't cry. I would hurt you back."

"I don't think I can manage the climb. So I do the next best thing: I jump."

“Fear is a tool, not a master. I wield it like a blade.”

Now Shub as Cardan is actually very suitable, the prince who is just so clever and misunderstood. Has a way with words, is known and worshiped.

He is so infatuated by the mortal that he hates it.

These instances: Cardan grins at me as though we've been great friends all our lives. I forgot how charming he can be--and how dangerous that is.

Have I told you how hideous you look tonight?' Cardan asks, leaning back in the elaborately carved chair, the warmth of his words turning the question in to something like a compliment. 'No,' I say, glad to be annoyed back in to the present. 'Tell me.' 'I cannot,' he says, then frowns.

Tell me again what you said at the revel," he says, climbing over me, his body against mine. "What?" I can barely think. "That you hate me," he says, his voice hoarse. "Tell me that you hate me." "I hate you," I say, the words coming out like a caress. I say it again, over and over. A litany. An enchantment. A ward against what I really feel. "I hate you. I hate you. I hate you." He kisses me harder.

I think that's enough to get my point across, I hope so.

Also a bonus, Vaibhav as Prince Oak, it's the cutest thing ever. Imagine young Vaib putting the blood crown on Shub's head because Yash told him to, and Shub not being able to do anything and just kneeling before the small prince because Yash had manipulated him into being the next king, oh the words of a mortal, they are very slippery.

Young Jude with an even younger Oak, Yash would be so protective of Vaib because now the whole kingdom wants Vaib to wear the crown so that someone else could rule from behind. Yash making Shub the sacrifice in place of Vaib, the dramatics.

How can I forget the great exile of Yash from elfhame after he married Shub and was promised the whole kingdom, Shub playing a game of his own. But later yearning as if he had lost a lover to death, writing letters for Yash to come back, come back home. Yash doesn't receive the letters, he doesn't search deep into Shub's words and his riddle, he gets heartbroken by the exile and loses the fight to go back and demand answers.

I don't know if there's someone who knows what I am even talking about, but I just had to get this out of my chest, this is just too good to be kept in my head only. Even if you haven't read the book, i would like to hear what you think of this comparison, do tell me!

yashasvi meets vaibhav in 2025 ipl, when vaibhav is 13 going on 14 and adopts him instantly because oh my god how can he not.

shubh loves pulling and squishing vaibhav's chubby baby cheekies 🥹🥹 he's got a bit of a weakness for cute aggression around real babies too which translates to vaibhav as well 😂

ever since shubman heard that yash's ipl team picked a teenager, he's been expecting that yash will "adopt" the kid. he's been preparing the guest room for vaibhav long before yash actually brings him over 🤣

vaibhav is initially so starstruck by both of them and is very respectful, but soon warms up.

yash said in an interview once that he loves cooking, so I hc he especially loves to cook for his boys. loves to fix them a hot meal when they're tired and sweaty after a game/practice.

yash tries to teach vaibhav how to cook. vaibhav is very incompetent in the beginning, but also very enthusiastic to learn, bless his little heart 😂

vaibhav once tries to bake a cake for yashman's anniversary. yashman come home to see smoke billowing from the oven, the smoke alarm going off and poor vaibhav running around the place, cheeks streaked with soot, nearly in tears, trying to put it out. 🥹🤏🏻 they don't know whether to laugh or cry.

eventually, vaibhav does learn enough basic cooking to ensure he won't set anything on fire. he loves experimenting in the kitchen, trying out new recipes all the time. yashman indulge him, and taste even the most unusual combinations he feeds them. sometimes the dish tastes unexpectedly good, sometimes it doesn't, but even if it is the latter, they don't have the heart to tell vaibhav so. 😂

vaibhav has admitted in an interview that he watches cartoons before a match to relax and shubman keeps liking tom and jerry reels on instagram anyways. so watching cartoons becomes their little bonding activity.

they love curling up on the couch with a tub of popcorn, watching cartoons and animated films, giggling uproariously throughout 🥺🥺🥺

shubh is not as demanding a taskmaster in this aspect, he lets vaibhav slack off and play cricket or watch the television sometimes when he's supposed to be studying.

vaibhav has 💯 failed a test once and asked shubh to sign it instead of yash because he knows yash will scold him 🤭

except when it comes to academics, yash is overall the more indulgent "parent". whatever vaibhav wants, he will get him instantly. even if he is reluctant, vaibhav will just look at him with big eyes and yash melts. there is literally nothing he won't do for vaibhav.

it falls to shubman to be the more strict / sharp-tongued of the two and discipline vaibhav when he gets a bit tooo cheeky. 😏

sometimes, vaibhav gets inquisitive and searches what people are saying about him online. he reads comments saying he's committed age fraud, people cussing at him for hitting their favourite bowlers all around the park and gets sooo upset.

yash holds him close, tells him to not pay attention to what idiots online say about him. then yash finds some of the comments vaibhav was talking about, and replies to all of them. he's just sitting there on the couch typing furiously, abusing and swearing at literal strangers online for saying mean things about his baby.

when shubman finds out about the controversy yash has caused, he groans and threatens to confiscate his phone 🤭

yash is incredibly protective of vaibhav even when they're playing. if any bowler bounces him (like rabada did yesterday) or celebrates aggressively after getting vaibhav out (like jamieson did vs dc) you can be sure yash is gonna find them after the match and give them a good earful. 😂

shubman patiently counsels yash that vaibhav's got this, he doesn't need to jump in to fight all his battles, but secretly he's just as protective of vaibhav as yash is and doesn't like seeing his baby sledged or yelled at. he definitely tells the paps to leave him alone too.

vaibhav is liable to get moody and emotional every time he gets out on a low score / when his team loses a game. he wants to be left alone at such times. once, after a heavy loss (like yesterday's qualifier), vaibhav just leaves the house without informing anyone, because he needs fresh air, he needs to hit some balls to get his frustration out. yashman are worried out of their minds because they have no idea where he went.

vaibhav comes back hours later, when it's almost midnight, and yash sinks into a chair, almost crying and shubman roars at him, "what the hell were you thinking, huh? going off by yourself like that!" but the relief is evident on his face too.

vaibhav didn't think it would be such a big deal, it's his habit to wander off and be alone after a loss, he thought yashman knew! but it's the first time he realizes how deeply yashman care for him, and oh shit, maybe he's adopted now. 😅

yash and shubh making sure vaibhav knows they're here to help / comfort him after a difficult match.

yashman are the most sickly-sweet romantic couple you ever laid your eyes on. they love having candlelit dinners, share a bowl of noodles or a glass of milkshake while gazing into each other's eyes over the table, and vaibhav just rolls his eyes fondly like "these old geezers smh".

on a cuter note, batting practice sessions!! all the time! yash is the only one out of the three of them who has any particular bowling talent and it exasperates him sooo much because shubh and vaibhav keep making him bowl to them (and vaibhav has developed an annoying habit of sending all of yash's deliveries flying to the boundary and sticking his tongue out at him later. 🤭)

vaibhav is an early riser and he is jumping on yashman's bed at 7 in the morning because "get up, bhaiyya!!! you promised we'd have a net session today!!!! 🥰🥰🥰" while shubman and yash just burrow deeper into the blankets, groaning, "we're old, let us sleep!" and vaibhav is like, "no ❤️" it's like kids getting excited on christmas morning but vaibhav gets excited about batting. 😂

vaibhav randomly stealing yash and shubman's bats; yash doesn't mind it at all, but shubman is as possessive of his bats as vaibhav is. of course, it's not like he can say no to the baby, so he just sighs like, "...fiineee. if you must. 🙄"

vaibhav walking in one day to find them barefoot on the balcony, shubman twirling yash around as a romantic bollywood song plays faintly in the background, and yash is looking at shubh with such a soft expression 🥹 vaibhav snaps a pic and retreats quietly.

shubman has definitely accidentally taught vaibhav a few creative expletives in punjabi. 🤭 yash is not pleased, especially because vaibhav is delighted with his new discovery and runs all over the house, shouting the words at the top of his lungs.

the three of them love going to funfairs and amusement parks together, once yashman take vaibhav to disneyland on a whim 🥹

they keep arranging little picnics and other outings whenever they get time; yashman don't want vaibhav to lose his chance at a simple, happy, normal childhood amidst the craze of being a teenage sensation, a prodigy.

dhruv and ishan are definitely the fun uncles in this dynamic. dhruv has the teammates at rr + yashu's best friend connection with vaibhav, and ishan has the fellow bihari + shubh's best friend connection.

let's start off with the character introductions! on one side we have shubman, the responsible older son of business tycoons ab and virat. he has studied business abroad and is poised to take over and expand his fathers' vast empire. he has grown up surrounded by comfort and luxury, never known a day's hardship in his life, but he really wants to use his privilege to improve the lives of those not as privileged as him.

on the other side, we have our sweet, simple, small-town boy with big dreams, yash! yash is renowned as an exemplary and model student: intelligent, conscientious, quiet and well-behaved. always comes top of the class. he is hard-working and diligent and wants to improve his life by studying hard and getting a good job.

but it gets dirty very first. the senior asks yash to marry him. yash, giddy with first love, agrees. but yash's parents disapprove! they think the guy is too old for yash, besides they don't see why he has to hurry into marriage so young, let him complete his education first.

but then, things go awry when young, 17/18 year old yash, meets a college senior, who is in his final year. this person is an original character to me, but you can imagine it as whoever you like!

yash and this senior start dating; he's handsome, charming, protective and yash thinks he's found his other half.

yash and his parents fight over it. yash doesn't see why he can't complete college while married, it's not like his boyfriend will mind that!

yash and the boyfriend elope, spend the night at a hotel. but surprise surprise! when yash wakes up in the morning, he finds the boyfriend gone without explanation, his money and valuables also gone! yash is horrified and distraught when he realises he's been robbed and dumped by the man he loved and trusted.

the boyfriend then convinces yash to run away with him. yash, silly hilly billy goat that he is, believes him and agrees. packs up some clothes, all his savings and other valuables, and sneaks out in the middle of the night. he leaves a note to his parents, explaining that he loves this boy, wants to spend his entire life with him and they shouldn't come looking for him.

to make matters worse, yash and the boyfriend have been sleeping together for quite some time now, and their shenanigans have left yash pregnant.

he tries to track down the guy, but to no avail. what choice does he have? he goes back to his parents' house, ashamed and apologetic. but his parents are not pleased to see him back. because he mixed their reputation in the mud with his elopement scandal, they want nothing to do with such a disobedient son anymore.

he makes the mistake of telling them he's pregnant, and gets slapped around the face, thrown out of the house and told that he's no son of theirs anymore, and to never show his face in this neighborhood, never darken their doorstep again. 🤭

poor yash. he's left heartbroken, penniless and pregnant with nowhere to go, nobody to turn to for help. he uses the last of his money to get onto a bus to mumbai, thinking of starting a new life for himself and his baby.

but who's going to offer a job to a pregnant 18 y/o who hasn't even completed his education and has no prior work experience? yash spends 2/3 days wandering the streets of mumbai, hungry, cold and tired. finally, he collapses onto the footpath out of sheer exhaustion.

that's when a kindly volunteer from a nearby ngo stumbles upon him, takes pity on him and takes him in. yash starts living in the ngo, slowly grows accustomed to his new world. he becomes friends with the guy who manages the ngo, dhruv. dhruv is really caring and helpful, accompanies him on doctor's visits, talks to him, encourages him that all is not lost yet and he shouldn't give up hope just yet.

yash has his baby! hi vaibhav! he has spent the past few months bitterly ruing his own stupidity, cursing himself because he was a good, hardworking student, he had a bright future ahead of him and he destroyed all of it with his own rash, impetuous actions and decisions. but vaibhav's birth brings him out of his trance, he can't spend the rest of his life crying over spilled milk, he has to get back on his feet for the sake of the baby.

fortunately for him, the ngo he's at specializes in this exact thing: helping downtrodden, impoverished, homeless people like himself upskill and get back on their own two feet. yash does odd jobs by the day to earn money; sells chaat, or does housework for nearby families, while dhruv helps him study and complete his education by night. all this while taking care of baby vaibhav.

yash still stays at the ngo, because he doesn't yet have enough money to buy a house of his own, and it's easier, with more people to help him with vaibhav.

now, twist! guess who owns the ngo? yep, you're right! shubman! it's just one of the many charitable ventures he has started on the side. he's a busy and important businessman, who doesn't have the time to be involved in everyday stuff, so he leaves the ngo to be managed by dhruv, but he likes dropping in every few months to ensure everything is going well.

shubman visits the ngo on a particularly bad day for yash; vaibhav is crying, he just can't get him to calm down, and he's at his wit's end what to do. he sees shubman and assumes he's a new volunteer. so he shoves vaibhav into his arms and tells him to hold the baby while he heats up milk for him. 🤭

shubman is bemused when this harried-looking young man hands him a screaming baby and practically orders him to take care of him, but he makes no comment. vaibhav quiets down within minutes when he's handed to shubh, yash is visibly relieved. shubh helps yash feed him the milk and then rocks vaibhav to sleep, before leaving.

only after shubman has left does yash realize he never asked the nice man his name. he asks dhruv, and dhruv, torn between being amused and aghast, tells yash that the guy who took care of vaibhav yesterday was the boss, the man who owns this entire place, and yash is like oh shit.

next day, though, shubman is back, this time with a fancy imported toy for vaibhav. yash awkwardly apologizes for being so rude to him yesterday, he didn't know who shubh was and didn't mean to offend him. shubh laughs and assures yash he's not offended at all, instead he's glad to have been of help.

shubman keeps coming back after that, because he can't get enough of this slender young boy with the golden skin and haunted eyes, and his cute little baby.

it helps that bby vaibhav LOVES shubh, calms down so quick around him, giggles at him with his eyes scrunched up. shubh and yash strike up a quiet friendship over shubman's frequent visits. shubh is amazed that someone as young as yash already has a baby, but he respects his privacy and never asks him how exactly that came about, although his brain conjures up the most horrible scenarios of what might have happened to yash.

yash... yash starts liking shubh. he's so kind to him, listens to him. he's so good with vaibhav too, and an inexplicable feeling swells up in yash's heart when he sees shubh bounce vaibhav in his arms, wishing it can be permanent.

he tells himself to stop dreaming, why would someone like shubh look at him when he could have his pick of anyone in the world?

yash is further crushed when some months later, news filters through that shubman is engaged, to another business tycoon's son. he hears the other volunteers at the ngo gossip about it and is heartbroken, but tells himself it's what he should've expected.

to his surprise though, a week later, shubh comes stampeding into the ngo, all frazzled and begs yash for a favour. he asks yash to pretend to be his boyfriend, and pretend that vaibhav is their baby, because he doesn't want the marriage his parents are planning for him.

yash knows he shouldn't, but he goes along with it because shubman has been so kind to him, how can he deny him this one favour he asks?

ab and virat are shocked when shubman introduces yash to them as his boyfriend and vaibhav as his child. virat loses his mind, asking shubman what's wrong with him, to have a child out of wedlock, are these the sanskaar they've given him? 🤭🤭

shubman apologizes dutifully and explains that he can't just abandon yash or the child, he has a responsibility towards them he intends to fulfill. this is why he cannot marry the guy they have picked out for him, nice as he might be, and he hopes they understand that.

and vaibhav enamours them within minutes. he's such a happy, curious and bubbly child. he can't speak all that well yet but he calls yash papa and shubh dada in his lisping baby voice. virat and ab are so taken with him and spoil him to no end.

virat and ab can't really say no. yash is the father of shubman's son, their grandson. and he seems like a sweet boy, mild-mannered, obedient, and intelligent. they can't turn him away.

for his part, yash gets a jolt when vaibhav calls shubh dada for the first time. he gets a bittersweet feeling, because why couldn't shubh really be vaibhav's dad?

yashman start spending more time together to keep up the ruse and start falling in love.

but to throw a spanner in the works, we have shubman's fiance! it can be anyone you want, but we thought of tilak. 🤭

tilak is the son of virat's closest friend and business partner, rohit. rohit and virat decided that they'll marry their sons off to each other when they're of age. tilak has been told all his life that he'll marry shubh when he's grown up.

it's why he's instantly pissed when shubh introduces yashasvi and vaibhav as his boyfriend and son to his family, because nuh uh, no way, he's not going to let yash steal everything he's dreamt of from him. 🤭

tilak is also instantly suspicious that shubman is lying, because virat and ab's precious, perfect son has an illegitimate child? no way that's true.

so tilak does some digging into yash's history. and he finds the whole truth about yash's ugly past: the jerk ex and how vaibhav isn't shubh's child.

so what does tilak do? just as the drama is quietening down, and abrat have started accepting yashasvi in their lives, tilak turns up with yash's ex in tow. the ex confesses that he's the parent of yash's child, not shubh and shubh has been lying all along!

more drama! abrat are so surprised and hurt because why would shubh lie to them? and now they're having second thoughts about accepting yash as their son's husband because after all, he has a child with another man!

but shubh stands up for yash. he grabs yash's wrist, in front of everyone and says he doesn't care what happened in yash's past. "no. vaibhav is not my son biologically," he says. "but I have fed him, rocked him to sleep, held his hands when he took his first steps and heard him call me dada. i'm more his father than this deadbeat here."

he confesses his love for yash in front of everyone, says he wants to marry yash and legally adopt vaibhav.

yash's jerk ex goes to jail! for robbing him and running off! 🤭

abrat eventually come around, because yash has been nothing but respectful and polite to them, and after hearing the whole story, they are just sorry for him to have to go through all that so young.

abrat give their blessings and yashman get married!

tilak has a happy ending too, dw! after he realizes how much yashman love each other, he cools down and finds love in shubman's younger brother, abrat's younger son, dewald!

shubman legally adopts vaibhav. he and yash have another child later, a daughter. a sweet lil baby girl. you can call her what you want, but we're calling her vedika!
