I’ve always thought he was cute! I got a little action figure of him yesterday. I sort of forgot he was part of the Rebel Alliance so I’m very much into Momaw Nadon presently. :)

Luke Skywalker (Imperial Stormtrooper Outfit) was released within the last wave of Kenner's original action figure line. It was a time where your mum no longer would buy you every new Star Wars figure without having a lengthy discussion with you. The last time you played with your figures and vehicles was months ago and you certainly no longer invited your friends over to play with your Star Wars stuff, as it became embarrassing in your age. It was only at this particular time, when Kenner did the unimaginable: they released a figure for one of the previous Star Wars movies. Although, this already happened once with the TIE Fighter Pilot figure—or if you want to split hairs—twice with the Imperial Gunner, these two figures were so generic, they could have belonged to any of the three movies. But there was another great feature: this was the first Stormtrooper figure that could turn its head! You were waiting all your childhood for a Stormtrooper figure that would be able to do that! And of course, just like Lando as Skiff Guard, Leia in Combat Poncho, and Boushh, there now was yet another figure with a removable helmet. And it wasn't just an arbitrary such figure, it was the Stormtrooper! Now while you always wanted to know what would be under that helmet, you knew, that "Luke Skywalker" wouldn't be the answer, yet it was awesome to have a look at a Stormtrooper figure that could remove its helmet. And again, just like Luke's very first outfit change, X-Wing Pilot Luke, this figure was generic enough to act as if it weren't a Luke figure at all. Luke's outfit changes started with such a generic figure and it ended that way. Full circle. The awesomeness of this figure compensated somehow for the otherwise great, but certainly debatable Combat Poncho Luke, which was condemned to sleep with its helmet on. Also, with this figure, Luke left Han, Leia, and Lando far behind in the competition about which main hero would have the most outfit change figures. An important question for us young collectors. Stormtrooper Luke gave an idea about how the Kenner future could have been like: release of figures from previous movies with more detailed features like removable helmets etc. Would they have released a Stormtrooper Han figure, too? Would there finally have been a Tarkin figure? You know the answers.

The new figure as shown here of course is as good as you can expect for a contemporary figure, with all the articulation and details you need. Luke's face is a bit dumb, though. This is particularly sad, because it seems to be one of the most reused heads for modern Luke figures. Also, this figure clarifies that we are no longer living in the 1980s, where two different Bespin Security Guard figures would have been molded each in a unique way without sharing same body parts. However, this is the 21st century where a figure like this is just put together from existing body parts used for most modern Stormtrooper (or Sandtrooper) figures, including the Han Solo in Stormtrooper disguise. This of course is nonsense as Han and Luke therefore are equally tall while we all know that Luke is too short for a Stormtrooper.
