I’m having late night YatoYuka feels, so just assume nothing from here on is going to make any sense 😭😭😭
YatoYuka to me is like the biggest promise of a possibility. I haven’t read the manga, so I’m only basing myself on the anime. And in the anime it is pretty obvious to me they couldn’t be a couple because their personalities are basically opposites of one another.
While Yatora embodies a righteous sort of personality where he wants to suffice everyone’s expectations of him and be good at everything he does, Yuka embodies a rebellious freedom where she’s not afraid to disrupt others’ expectations and beliefs as long as she’s being honest with herself. Their personalities are a contrast to one another and they are still resistant to change by the end of the anime. Yuka is still searching for herself and fighting others to be accepted while Yatora still doesn’t know who he is and is still trying to become the person and artists others expect him to be.
However, there was some change to the both of them and that small change came from opening up to one another. Yatora learns to question not only others but himself mostly because of Yuka pushing him to it. She’s the only person in the anime that sees he’s crafted a whole persona in order to please others and challenges him about it. Because she doesn’t like fakeness and deception. She tries so wholly to be herself that seeing others doing the opposite feels alien to her. So she challenges him to be himself for once.
And when it comes to how Yuka changed, she learned to be vulnerable because of Yatora. Although we see her being quite sociable in the anime, most of the time she’s sad or hurt, she’s alone. She doesn’t trust others because she’s knows that most people won’t accept her wholeheartedly and so she doesn’t open up. But Yatora goes after her, because he wants to attend to everyone’s expectations, including hers, so he listens and he tries to give her the comfort she needs. And by the end of the anime the rage in Yuka softens a little bit because of him.
I still think the both of them are a mess. None of them know who they are and they are too different and immature to have a healthy romantic relationship from the start. But that’s the most beautiful thing I see about them is that they are willing to grow and learn from one another. Initial animosity turning to mutual respect and growing both apart and together to eventually come back around and realize how much they have learned from the other and how maybe now they can acknowledge there were different types of feelings involved in their relationship.
And that’s why I think they are a perfect possibility. Because although they have their own things going on in the anime and clearly aren’t interested or ready to be in a relationship with each other, they have been fundamental for the other’s growth and self discovery and I think that once they mature and come to the conclusion that the other was so important in their development, deeper and more honest feelings are such a natural thing that could happen.
Idk, I’m just so emotional about the idea of them relying on each other in fundamental moments in their life and not realizing how life changing it was but then coming back to it and realizing how important and amazing the other is 🥹😭
My heart is melting just thinking about it 😭😭😭😭
