what’s that post that says. 911 abc would be such a good show if only it were a good show
I like how the ai questions (usually the ones to push the announcement to be made on site) are just being told “cj will respond” but it’s been nearly a day of that and I’m sure it’s just gonna get ignored to pretend this didn’t happen 🫠
And a few hours ago, CJ showed up finally:
As I'm reading rough stone rolling and now also the mormon people, I'm often vindicated in my singular obsession with mormonism as a culture and an identity and with mormonism as a radical, transformative approach to religion. I identify so much with mormonism as a part of who I am and I'm so inspired by our history and fascinated by our contradictions. These books have validated my obsession, that YES, there is a lot worth saying and studying about us, that we are experiencing something relatively unique as mormons, that our culture and our history and our theology is worth real, honest study. Mormonism means a lot to me, and I'm not wrong to embrace it and to reach for our roots as a community because there really is SO much good and so much sense of identity there. I'm talking myself in circles, but it's just nice to read on paper so many things I've also thought myself. There's a church shaped hole in my heart lately and I'm just shoving in as much as I can to fill it. It feels nice when I hit that sweet spot and the hole is closed for a while.

if you had the chance, how would you remake twilight princess?
oh easy. a lot of it was done for me in the manga tbh. first and foremost literally half of the game needs to be cut for being unnecessary padding. if it does not have thematic or narrative significance it does not fucking need to be there. up to and including the bokoblin bridge fights, the escort-the-children-home covered wagon segment, etc etc.
next we need to establish some actual concrete themes instead of going off vibes and nostalgia alone. I want to lean into corruption, because i think the framework is already there with midna, the puppet zelda battle, and the wolf form, the story is just too incoherent and badly paced for any of it to come across. if you remove the needless padding, you have more room to establish real thematic coherency without making the game too long. Lean into link being a naturally gifted fighter, the left-handedness, etc, and allow midna to drop hints about possible corrupting influences on his quest (preferably in a more subtle way than she does in the real game. that was so annoying fr.) to follow through on the corruption thing, give the player a boss that resolves that arc. Twilight princess has no problem borrowing from oot and i think an oot-style dark link fight would have been a PERFECT way to follow through on the weird foreshadowing of a corrupting influence they had that never actually went anywhere. if the dark link fight was then echoed in the puppet zelda fight it would be REALLY fucking cool imo. I also think that leaning into found family with link and the kids and midna and zelda a la himekawa manga immediately improves the story quite a bit.
I am also going to gut the hero's shade because i fucking hate him. I think the idea of a mentor to link is a strong one and he could also be a decent vessel for storytelling in-game, but establishing him as the hero of time was a bad move. full stop. sorry if you are going to write that he is the hero of time he needs to BE the hero of time not a dickhead lol. I think the manga had the right idea with making the hero's shade a previous companion of midna's, explaining both the golden wolf form and his connection to link without having to retcon any previous characterization.
I think that takes care of the major narrative problems i have with tp, the rest of it is just making sure that the story actually COMES ACROSS and that the game can stand on its own. one of my biggest problems with twilight princess was the fact that if you don't already know the story of oot, tp is completely incomprehensible. it literally cannot stand on its own because it relies so heavily on logical leaps and connections that the player will ONLY MAKE if they have the context of oot. a tp rewrite would need to cut the dependency on oot and create a narrative that is compelling WITH OR WITHOUT the context of the greater lore.
