hi pinned post because I got irritated trying to find my tags while searching for stuff.

Is the ship computer or whatever it is a overseer and Stratt a ancient or Iterator...?

(Also, you can probably explain the language/how rocky speaks thing as Rocky either not having the vocal cords to speak fluent scuggish and is doing his best, or just doesn't know much of how to speak the language and is doing his best. Or a mark of communication-based translator that is still collecting data?)

Also; as for astrophage, it could be something that's using up water or void fluid, or alternatively: the Rot.

And for the angle of y'know, grace having a life before all this, they could have been a part of a tribe/colony in stratts city (perhaps with them being knocked out and such after refusing the call, and then waking up, an unknown distance from home, in a train Stratt repaired (perhaps if Grace is able to use it to make distance it could be a stand-in for the ship itself? In that case you could have the Blip-a be a crashed train from a iterator trying something similar or smth-)

Or not. Idk I just have ideas and like sharing them. Imma go to bed, if you want me to stop with giving ideas tell me otherwise I might throw some at you at random points tmr lol

So the MIT ham radio club has two guys who regularly work Morse code and I can actually tell them apart by their "fists," i.e. their Morse code accents, and it's pretty fun to answer their CQ with "W1MX DE K1XXX HELLO MAX" after listening to them and figuring out who is on the key.

embarrassingly, I heard one of them calling CQ yesterday and i answered with "W1MX DE K1XXX BT HI [fast bug op's name] FB 5NN 5NN QTH VA HI DE [myname] HW U BUDDY ? BK" and he just asked "BK NR? BK" because he was in the CQ WPX contest which I didn't know was going on as I was just working mobile and on my way to run an SES from a three-fer POTA and potential SOTA (i need to QGIS the activation zone to confirm). i gave him "NR 001 001 BK" but he was confused. i tried again a little later and he got it, and i also gave my school's club call so he could get both. i felt bad because i was also running a straight key in the car which i can't use a lick past 25 wpm on a bumpy road and he was running a super clean-fisted iambic at the time (he's usually a bug or straight operator but was running a paddle for the contest) around 35 wpm.

Slugcats don't actually need to breathe. The water must be doing something else than drowning them.

Slugcats can survive a LONG time in a closed off box. There's water outside so air can't get in. Unless the slugcat uses such little air that they can just survive off of all of the air in the box, they would die from lack of air. Same with other creatures. And slugcats don't seem to lose that much weight after hibernation, they can literally survive a long time off only 4 poppy corn (popcorn) seeds.

The water could be entering some entrence near the slugcat's head and be causing damage to their vital organs, slugcats obviously don't need water to survive as have you ever seen a slugcat drink before? Staying underwater for too long kills a slugcat, and yet staying in a closed off box for potentially months doesn't.

Or maybe creatures just don't breathe at all when sleeping and just do magical stuff to not die but the magical stuff doesn't work under water. It is another world after all where death is apparently not allowed.

Considering these are *shelters*, and the hydraulics still work fine, it likely has a system to store oxygen and then maintain atmosphere during the rain and then refreshing in the morning.

That would be a lot of oxygen to be storing in a shelter! I think. Sense the time a slugcat sleeps is unknown, technically it possibly could be 20 years. (Though probably not)

I mean, it does depend on how long they sleep- if its like less than a week. Well that's no issue at all, spacecraft get away with that fine and shelters get to not have to worry about weight and also probably can have biomechanical stuff to convert CO2 to O2. If it's years then that gets funky but also considering the amount they eat and how long it takes for things (like popcorn plants) to regenerate and how the iterators react, it's likely that it isn't on the scale of months or years but instead days at most. Ofc it still COULD, just unlikely.
