🙌What's a line or paragraph of yours that you're proud of?

This paragraph from my The Charioteer fic "As Luck Would Have It" makes me so happy every time I reread it:

He would not apologize for loving Ralph. He had long stopped apologizing for what Ralph meant to him and who they were to each other. But it had been a mess, in those uncertain early days, and he’d drawn Andrew into it by association. The fact that it had been Bunny and not Ralph who’d burdened Andrew with Laurie’s domestic menage was no longer relevant. Laurie would take responsibility for it, as Ralph had done the same for him all those years ago. And without being consciously aware of it, Laurie had already decided that they wouldn’t be seeing more of each other after this, so it hardly mattered what Andrew thought of Ralph. 

This is the "many years after canon" Laurie I've always wanted to see depicted in fic and I'm so happy with his distant politeness, the way I had him chose the word "menage", his decision to apologize for but not explain on Ralph's behalf, because Andrew's opinion does not matter to either of them.

For dihua from Mysterious Lotus Casebook, it has to be 江湖笑 Jianghu Xiao by 周华健 Emil Wakin Chau. It's so them! Especially the last two stanzas:

Ooh I want to know more about "Me and Rosier Down by the Schoolyard"!

Inspired by one of my all time favorite Paul Simon songs: the basic premise of this fic is that Regulus' parents decide to send him away to Durmstrang for his final year of school to separate him from Evan Rosier, who they've decided has corrupted their sweet little boy. The fic opens with Walburga walking in on Regulus and Evan in an intimate moment. Regulus has to have a horribly uncomfortable conversation with his parents about it, during which the dark mark on his arm comes up:

“What is this, Regulus?” Walburga asked, still holding his wrist in a tight grip.

“It is Lord Voldemort’s mark,” Regulus said.

“I know what it is,” Walburga snapped. “Why do you have it?”

Regulus furrowed his brow and bit his tongue to stop himself from pointing out that she had asked what it was.

“So that he can summon me to his side when he has use for me,” Regulus said. He winced as his mother dug her nails in deeper.

“For Merlin's sake, is there anyone you won’t get on your knees for?” she asked in a shrill voice.

Regulus' eyes widened in shock. "I..."

Oh yes, so this is actually my WIP that's closest to being finished. It's a TomDraco generation mash set in the 1940s that spans their school years. I'm still settling on the key 5th to 7th year plot points and the ending before it'll be done. Perhaps it'll hit at the 15k mark, not 100% sure yet!

Here's an excerpt with little 11-year-old Draco & Tom:

After some more incessant prodding, Draco discovered that Riddle was an orphan who knew nothing about his parents, not even their blood status. 

Draco had always rather liked the idea of being an orphan. It’d been one of the make-believe games he’d played with Crabbe and Goyle when they’d been younger—a poor little orphan passed from one eccentric relative to the next. 

Riddle got a cold, hostile look about him when he shared this piece of information. “You’re stupid,” he said, “and annoying.” Then he hexed a rat’s ears and tail onto Draco and punched him in the face.

When Draco went crying to Professor Slughorn, the fat fool laughed till there were tears in his eyes. “You mean to tell me this young Muggle-born performed a fifth year transfiguration on you on his first day at Hogwarts and then… physically assaulted you? My dear boy, there’s no need to cover up for the older students.”

Riddle looked up at him, dark eyes wide and innocent. “Excuse me, sir. What’s transfiguration?”

#2 烟雨朦胧花满地 When it rains smoke and flowers (MLC) is a Liangyi Xianren x He Xiaofeng smut fic, taking place in a canon-divergent AU where Liangyi survives. She and Xiaofeng remain married and start a new life in Suzhou after the events of the drama. They purchase a lovely house with an inner courtyard and find some time to explore each other’s bodies one spring afternoon, lying on the covered deck that extends from their room into the inner courtyard, where rain gushes down the curved rooftop, steam and smoke rises from their portable furnace and teapot, and the ground is blanketed by the petals of fallen flowers.

✦ what was your easiest fic to write & your hardest?

in terms of mlc fic, fic meme is almost always the easiest to write, so for standalone fic that means everything grows stronger in the light because it started as fic meme and then became porn with dihua server llh birthday fest hahah.

the hardest for me to write was probably i'm a fox and you're a burrow partially because the last thing i wrote is always hardest, but also because i wanted to cram so much stuff into it and was pushing through a block. i made it under deadline tho!

for other fandoms idk if i remember, writing is almost always hard for me tbh. i had my new fandom/ship bump for dihua for a bit which is probably why i managed to write so much (for me) so fast, but now it's back on the struggle bus, rip. i'll keep going tho, i love them too much not to.
