This hellsite doesn't let me post my creations easily. This is what you're missing out
So I'm having an argument with a YOI hater. He continues to insist that the 'yaoi' hype was its only endearing point, that the animation was sloppy, there were too many mistakes and there were better anime that came out during Fall 2016. Meanwhile, he's completely ignoring my counter-argument: Yuri On Ice happens to be the first sports anime, as far as I know, that doesn't queerbait its fans. The show isn't a Yaoi because it doesn't center around the sexual relationship between Viktor and Yuuri, it is a big part of that but the ice skating is still there too. The characters we are introduced to are all unique in their own way, the music for each of their routines is different and amazing and we're given realistic characters and traits such as Yuuri's rapid weight gain, stubbornness and crippling anxiety, Viktor worries about his career but also about how he can better himself for his sake and Yuuri, and Yurio who struggles to surpass Viktor, to continue winning while also hoping for Yuuri and Viktor to continue to compete though he wouldn't admit it aloud. And there are so many reasons why this anime is just...it just works and I hate that people diss it for stupid reasons.
Ok I don’t hate OtaYuri but I hope the YOI staff doesn’t make them “canon” just yet.
WTTM progression is clearly rushed, they have only befriended each other for a few days, (and tbh the glove-biting part was unnecessary and clearly made out of fanservice, not something that would be logically done if you consider the character and relationship development that has happened between them in canon) (but that’s just my opinion)(Like, I probably can imagine this if we have enough development on Otabek’s part)
Also, regarding canonical character development, we’ve seen how Yuri craves affection and self validation. He’s still 15 years old and he’s lonely much like a any overachieving petulant 15 years olds are. What Yuri needs now more than a significant someone is a friend. A friend who’d go through silly shenanigans with him, who’d consider him as equal. Not a boyfriend, when Yuri’s clearly not well-acquainted with how societal constructs and labels would require him of social maintenances he has not understand just yet.
Knowing how it took months for Viktor and Yuuri to develop their relationship, and how real and healthily well-balanced Viktuuri is, how grounded to reality they are, I hope YOI staff take their time to develop Otayuri too. Not rushing them into romantic relationship just yet, let them deepen this new budding friendship first!
This was also the reason why on ep 10 it was explicitly stated that Otabek is Yuri’s first friend. Because that’s an IMPORTANT role for Yuri’s character arc that has been entrusted to Otabek. By pushing that Otayuri is “canon” within a few days of their relationship, and focusing more on their “romance” while joke-mocking on their “friendship”, it’s like the staff are dismissing the prominence of Otabek’s arrival in Yuri’s life that is to make Yuri opens up little by little by giving him a friend.
I’m not an anti whatsoever, Idec about the age yada yada. I just feel like Yuri needs a friendship more than romantic relationship that would demand him to act a certain way when he’s still enwrapped in this hard cocoon he made for himself. He needs to learn on how to mature and get comfortable with affection first. Later, when he’s had a few years past the angsty teenage edgelord phase, and understand that it’s OKAY to love and be loved and how to maintain a relationship, then I’ll support it wholeheartedly.
PS it ended up as a rant I am sorry I can’t word this well, I only had 3 hours sleep. xo
tl;dr i dont hate otayuri i just hope yoi staff know what they’re doing
yuri on ice is not perfect
yuri on ice has many flaws
yuri on ice fandom isn’t the greatest, it has people who do shitty things
it still doesn’t give you the right to dismiss all of us and claim we only watch the anime because we’re mindless fangirls who want to see The Gay
get over yourself
I'm getting low key disgusted at the Yoi fandom for always attacking the heteros! This is why this shitty world will never EVER change. Quick reminder: It was the heteros who made YOI in the first place. Stop hurting fellow fans of this anime! Stop spreading hate! Yoi is meant to spread love, but what do we do? Attack others who aren't part of the LGBTQ+ community...This is my first time joining a fandom and the toxicity I'm seeing all over tumblr is making me regret joining. You should all feel ashamed of yourself for acting so childish!
I need to get this out there
Even if it probably already is
if you don’t like yoi rants then don’t read??
Victor's love life
Victor is viewed as a playboy and a sex symbol and what not, but we don’t actually know much about his love life.. I feel like he has definitely had lovers (ofc xd even tho I can’t imagine him with anyone but Yuri, men or women) but not anything too serious. I don’t see him having too many one night stands either… Even if he would have had where to pick from. 😂 So in conclusion, I think Victor would have flings with people (gender unknown, no two timing) for few weeks and then end it when there just wasn’t enough feelings. Skating was always his first love. And he had (and still does have) many friends all over the world but as we know, it was only when he met Yuri that he was filled with so much love and life that he didn’t feel empty anymore.
He found someone he wants to keep by his side.
Just a little speculation of what I think Victor’s love life looked like in the past.
(Sorry for my grammar..)
