The importance of Lady Rhea Royce

Can we all agree how interesting Rhea is. Whether you like Daemon or not; we can not deny Rhea's position gives us many hints of what was to come in the Dance of the Dragons.

The Vale had Lord Yorbert be the Regent of the Vale while Jeyne Arryn was a minor and in the meanwhile Rhea was the own regent of Lord Yorbert who was apparently her cousin.

That would mean the Royces had a control over inheritances in case an heir/heiress died without children, and also had no problem with women inheriting as we see the case of Rhea.

But even then, the Royces were traditionalists and we can see that on their agreements that inheritances are also determined by close kinship.

That is why Jaehaerys I and Alysanne chose to have Daemon wed to Rhea. They wanted Daemon at the Vale so they could have control over the Vale, and for Viserys' rule to receive support for Jaehaerys' part, and for Alysanne to try to reinstate Rhaenys by sending him away.

It's probable their consummation was supervised so Jaehaerys I and Alysanne would see it as sealed and unbreakable.

Rhea's successor was her nephew, and if we follow the show narrative, it seems Yorbert had to have received some kind of amends for him to be ok in the future with Jeyne Arryn's support of Rhaenyra, as her nephews Gunthor and Willam will fight for her, and her grandniece will participate in the Maiden's Day Ball as a candidate to be Aegon III's wife

Did Rodrik and Yobert get along?

Indeed they did, Yorbert (not Yobert, but I understand the confusion) was squire to the old lord, a trusted friend, it's why Naerys was ultimately fine with him increasing his own power by becoming Regent, though that entente weakened throughout the years until a pissed off Naerys was comfortable with threatening him.

I don't think Martin thought about it and I really like your interpretation of the policy and precedents so: Why do you think the valley supported Viserys?Checking the wiki I saw that Jeyne was a minor during GC and her regent was Rhea Royce's father who would be Lady of her House for a few years.Wouldn't it be against the interests of both women for Lord Royce to support Viserys? Rhea had a nephew and Jeyne a cousin.Wasn't it better to support Rhaenys like Jeyne would do with Nyra later?

Who does Yorbert Royce vote for at the GC of 101? He's representing Jeyne Arryn (plus potentially influence for her own claim), but Daemon is married to his likely heir and possible daughter, Rhea. He's probably related through Hubert Arryn's wife to Jeyne AND Aemma. Both factions are insanely rich, powerful AND have dragonrider/s. Smart choice: Jeyne for Laenor, himself for Viserys, preferably privately/anonymously?

Well, one thing that’s important to note was that Daemon was massively shitty to Rhea, so I doubt that he likes Daemon. But I’m sure he kept to his vow and voted Jeyne’s choice honorably. As for his own vote, well, that depends on whether his loyalty to Jeyne Arryn wins out over his conventional attitudes. I think he wanted to vote for Viserys, partially because there was going to be a regent (and it probably wouldn’t be him), but Daemon showing up with a band of fighters looking to force the issue made him cast his vote for Laenor out of pure spite.
