Hidden away behind a very non-assuming façade, just like the flower of the same name, is the very quaint and very small Blue Bell. A traditional little pub with a friendly following of locals that are very chatty and welcoming, although not if you order a standard lager like our mate Dave did, he got a bit of stick for that, which we found quite amusing. If there’s a sign on the door saying private party take no heed as this is a technique to avoid large groups or simply people who aren’t in the know from entering. Although it also has to do with the sheer lack of space in this tiny two room pub. The main bar is crammed with all kinds of brewery paraphernalia and an open fire, which lends to an intimate cosy atmosphere. They have a good selection of ales at average prices and have previously won many awards, unfortunately the size of the venue leads to quite a few low scores knocking down their overall results. It’s really a drinking locals pub, good place for a couple to have a nice quiet drink, but not really for anything else and definitely not large groups; a little gem in the right situation.
