Aikido isn't nice. It's Fantastic! But it's not nice.
Nick Mills Sensei
An honor received. 1.17.2017 I received the Shidoin instructor certificate during this years Keiko Hajime seminar at the Honbu dojo in downtown Los Angles. I am grateful for this honor and look forward to the challenge of sharing the knowledge that I have grown through our working relationship. As I grow older, I am more understanding of Kaiso Toshishiro Obata's teaching. Through his teaching, I am understanding the relationship between the movements in Shinkendo/Aikibujitsu and the moral parameters of Bushido. It all comes together in a statement he makes often, "Life is Art." I am grateful to him and his family for the organization they have built, a lighthouse that has guided me and many others to a path of inspiration. Their efforts have increased the quality of our lives. We are grateful. Most respectfully, K
They say, “Aikido doesn’t work in the octagon.” I say, “Sure it does. Notice I never stepped foot in the octagon?” I WIN!

What to do before a shodan grading
Today's Aikido lesson: relaxation. I sit here on the eve of my upcoming Black Belt test, and I'm trying to put how I feel into words. I'm Nervous, of course, but not overly so. I'm not scared, I'm not panicking, I'm just......anxious? Maybe that'll do for now. Mac and I have been practicing for this test for 6 months. We are Ready. I know the techniques, I know the basic movements, and I know the refinements they are looking for. What worries me most is that I know myself. I'll get excited, or I'll make a mistake and get flustered, and then the whole train will derail. How much of my preparation will I remember when I'm mad at myself and beating myself up for a silly mistake? And I've heard the advice a million times: "you just need to let go if, and just relax". Yeah. Thanks. I get it. And I know it's true, but like I said before, I know me. Deep down, I just have to trust myself that I know the techniques, trust that my partner is equally as ready as me, and trust that my teachers knew I was ready when they called this test. I'm ready for this. I will do fine tomorrow, and I will make mistakes. I should start letting go of that now, maybe that'll keep me calm tomorrow.
From last week, 17/6/17
Another great Kenshu at Sterling Aikido, with Senseis Dan Boyle and Todd Fleck. "when the train is coming down the track at you, dont get out of the way. Be the penny on the track that derails the train."

Три года назад я нашла спорт, который мне нравится и клуб единомышленников, с которыми в удовольствие тренироваться. Единственное: жаль, что тренировок с мечами совсем мало...
