Some days I am proud of myself for even showering. Last week I went to the grocery store. I showered first, smelled nice, and looked pretty good (I thought). I like to be comfortable when I am out running errands and grocery shopping, so I was wearing a hoodie and yoga pants.

At checkout, the young man at the cash register was always kind and helpful, I had been in his line several times before. He began to speak and as his sentence unfolded my first instinct was to laugh, but I held back. I could tell this guy was trying. It was as if he had made an agreement with himself or maybe a supervisor to compliment everyone that comes through his line, no matter what.

"Well, you look," he paused. "Very...comfortable", he said as he averted his eyes slightly and continued ringing up my items. I suppose not every compliment is worthy of writing home about.

I smiled at him. "I AM, and thank you for noticing."

I thought to myself as I walked out of the store. "Pretty", "nice", or "lovely" would have been acceptable complimentary adjectives. I would have even been happy with, "hey you smell good", because I know for sure that one was true. I worked really hard on my hair and makeup. I even had a nice manicure. Damn. Comfortable?

I guess beggars can't be choosers. I'll take the compliment. He wasn't wrong.
